We Own This City Episode 3: Release Date, Recap and Speculation

In last week’s episode, Jenson is apprehended by the FBI. While he’s in custody, he’s confident that there’s been a mistake and that he will be released soon. Through a series of flashbacks, we see how Jenson became a cop so confident in his wrongdoings, knowing very well that the system was structured in a way that he would never face any consequences for his actions, be it wrongful arrests or simply stealing. His coworker introduced him to ways to charge the state overtime and make as much money as possible through the loopholes in the system. The DOJ continues its investigation into Officer Hearsl, who still seems to be on the streets despite having an expansive complaint sheet against him for being too violent.

His coworker Eddie Barber introduces him to the ways of getting ahead in the force and they make several unjustifiable arrests. Eddie explained to him that if they made that many arrests it would lead to a lesser number of crimes that night and that the court would release them without charges anyway. In 2017, Jenson passes Rayam on his way to the interrogation room and tells him to keep his mouth shut. In another flashback of 2015, we see Jenson’s progression as a cop who’s aware of how fully rigged the system is and how little regard he has for even the newly appointed Commissioner who addresses a meeting following Freddie Grey’s death.

Meanwhile, in 2017, the civil rights division of the DOJ office continues its investigation into officer Hersl and they discover that he’s so infamous for being a bad cop who overuses force and violence that he’s even made his way to rap lyrics by a local rap artist. Nicole later arranges a meeting to speak with the artist and he implies that Hersl has been stealing and that he’s not the only cop who does so.
