Tales of the Walking Dead Episode 6 Ending Explained

Tales of the Walking Dead Episode 6 is a zombie-horror story, which treads on the thin line between reality and illusion. It is quite confusing and makes the audience question how much of the episode took place in reality.

Created by Scott M. Gimple and Channing Powell, Tales of the Walking Dead is an anthology series, set as a spinoff to the popular horror-fantasy series, The Walking Dead. Each episode of the spinoff series deals with a separate standalone story, exploring different timelines and historic events in The Walking Dead universe.

The sixth and final episode of the first season focuses on Idalia and her post-apocalypse boyfriend, Eric. While traveling through a darkened forest looking for shelter, the two come across a nearby house belonging to a supposed witch.

The couple convince the so-called witch to let them stay but take the house for themselves after her mysterious death. A series of evil hallucinations and dark, horrific visions follow, with an ending that is sure to confuse viewers.

Episode 6, titled “La Doña” ends with Idalia and Eric getting into a physical fight. After that, they find themselves trapped in the roots beneath La Dona’s house, surrounded by the bodies of its previous victims.

However, it is unlikely that something like this would have taken place in reality. Idalia and Eric were both hallucinating these episodes, being steeped in delusion. The two were also paranoid that they would turn against each other, in the same way that they turned against La Dona, Maria, and the other survivors.

It is interesting that the episode covers everything that happened only from Idalia and Eric’s point-of-view, and avoids focusing on what actually happened in reality. Considering that both characters were in delusion, their visions cannot be trusted.

The fight between Idalia and Eric, followed by the double-stabbing, is most likely true. This means that both the Walking Dead characters are dead by the end of the episode. The stabbing was a result of the traumatic visions that the couple had.

The two had visions of the reanimated corpses of the previous victims, a shaking house, grabby tree roots, and psychic zombies. These were a result of the couple’s delusions and paranoia, which finally led them to their deaths.

The two were having such delusions because they were dealing with repressed memories from their past. In the course of ‘La Dona’, we get to know that Idalia and Eric were not innocent at all, and had killed several people, including Maria.

It is also possible that Idalia and Eric killed Dona Alma, the supposed witch and owner of the eerie haunted house. Though in the episode she dies due to accidental choking, we realize that we are only seeing things from Idalia and Eric’s point of view.

The couple’s version of things may not be true at all, considering that they were dealing with repressed memories. The two wanted to forget that they took so many lives and could not come to terms with the murders they had committed.

So, naturally, in their point of view, Dona Alma died by accident. But in reality, she could have been killed by the couple. All of this is however just speculation, as the episode does not make a clear distinction between fact and illusion.

Repression is a common form of defense mechanism, and Idalia and Eric were constantly trying to repress memories that were haunting them. This led to their traumatic visions and hallucinations. In the end, Idalia and Eric die but we remain in doubt about whether everything in the episode actually happened or if it was a part of the couple’s traumatic visions.
