Everything That Happened in the Time Jump Between HOTD Episodes 2 and 3

House of the Dragon Episode 3 began with a multi-year time jump. It is clear that many significant developments took place during this time.

House of the Dragon is a spinoff and prequel to the mega-popular television series, Game of Thrones. It is based on George R.R, Martin’s novel, Fire and Blood, and focuses on the rise and fall of House Targaryen. It follows the events that led to the Targaryen civil war, also called the Dance of Dragons.

It was confirmed earlier that Season 1 will have a mid-season time-jump. Though the show has not progressed to the time jump yet, we saw a shorter time jump between Episode 2 and Episode 3.

During the time jump, a lot of significant events took place. As King Viserys announced in the small council in Episode 2, he married Lady Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King.

The couple had their first child together, Prince Aegon. In Episode 3, we witness Aegon’s second name day celebrations. Moreover, we see that Alicent Hightower is pregnant again with another royal baby.

In Episode 2, the Sea Snake aka Lord Corlys teamed up with Daemon Targaryen to fight the Crab Feeder, who had occupied the Stepstones. In Episode 3, we see them already at war. It is indicated that the war has been going on for a significant amount of time, as Viserys mentioned that it’s been “three years” since the Crab Feeder arrived.

Rhaenyra is now old enough to get married and Viserys insists that she find a suitable match for herself as soon as possible. So, the characters are growing up slowly. The major time jump is not too far away.

According to the books, Alicent has four children with Viserys: Aegon II, Halaena, Aemond, and Daeron. If we go in order, she is probably pregnant with Halaena in the series as of now. The clash between Alicent’s eldest son, Aegon II, and Rhaenyra will lead to one of the bloodiest civil wars in the history of Westeros, popularly known as the Dance of Dragons.

New episodes of House of the Dragon air every Monday on HBO Max.
