Will Corlys Velaryon die from blood fever in House of the Dragon?

Corlys Velaryon, aka the Seasnake, has been one of the most crucial pieces in House of the Dragon. Right from the beginning, his support has been important for the strength of the Targaryen House.

However, his recent illness and inability to manage the operations at Driftmark raise an ominous question. What has happened to Corlys Velaryon? Will he die due to his sickness like King Viserys?

Lord Corlys Velaryon is suffering from a blood fever. This is partly due to his battle at the Stepstones alongside Daemon which went on for six years. But he will not die and will play a huge part in Dance of the Dragons.

Currently, Lord Corlys is not doing well. While it is easy to mirror his disease and condition with that of King Viserys, their fates are far apart from each other. On one hand, King Viserys will die in his sleep at 52. On the other hand, Lord Corlys will serve the Black and the Green Allegiance in the Dance of the Dragons’ civil war.

Lady Rhaenys

At the moment, Lady Rhaenys is taking care of all the court affairs since Corlys is bedridden, and his blood fever is taking a huge toll on his health. However, he’ll soon recover and be ready to participate in the civil war.

In the book, Lord Corlys joins Rhaenyra’s side and fights for her in the civil war. However, after the death of his wife, Rhaenys, in one of the battles, he turns against her. He holds her accountable for the tragic fate of the Lady.

However, Jacaerys, Rhaenyra’s son, resolves the conflict by naming Corlys Hand of the Queen. As the war goes on, Rhaenyra takes over the Iron Throne. However, once she becomes Queen, she is posed with a significant task.

At the time, there were many Targaryen bastards in the King’s Landing, known as Dragonseeds. She wanted to execute them all. During the same time, Corlys discovers Ser Laenor’s two bastards. However, it was heavily implied that these two were actually Corlys’ bastards.

Rhaenyra

When Rhaenyra questions their loyalties and contemplates if she should finish them too, Corlys turns against her and starts serving Aegon II. Rhaenyra later dies, and Aegon II ascends the throne.

However, the war doesn’t end there. Lord Cregan Stark, who had formed the Pact of Ice and Fire with Rhaenyra, storms King’s Landing and orders Aegon II to leave the Iron Throne. As the negotiations go on, Corlys Velaryon and Larys Strong, advisors to the King, decide to take things into their own hands.

They poison him, kill him, and thus end the battle. Aegon III, Rhaenyra’s son, ascends the Iron Throne. After one year of the war, Lord Corlys dies of old age. After him, one of the bastards, Alyn, takes over Driftmark since he’s the only one with the Velaryon name left alive.
