Will and Uncle Phil Finally Make Up in Bel-Air S2 Premiere

Despite a shaky reception to its debut season and doubts about its renewal, Bel-Air has returned with season 2! The show really needs to amp it up this season if they want to stay in business.

The premiere episode just dropped and we catch up with the gang, with no big time-jumps in the mix. As you may last remember, S1’s finale ended with Will learning that Phil and Aunt Viv have been lying about his father. So, how does the S2 premiere deal with that?

In Bel-Air S2 Ep 1, Will and Phil finally make up with each other, with the former returning to the Banks’ residence. Hilary also finally takes her relationship with Jazz public, after pushing it to the side in S1.

The premiere takes place to the setting of Ashley’s 13th birthday party (aboard a yacht, no less) and all the preparations for it. This is perfect because it gives all the major characters a reason to be under the same roof — which always make for the best scenes.

Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritties of the episode!

1. Will’s Tries To Go Pro & Makes Up with Uncle Phil

The episode opens up with Will, who’s been living with Jazz. Somehow Will has found a way to make money on the side and as Carlton suspects, it’s not all legal. But for now, it doesn’t come across as a big deal.

During his meet-ups with both Carlton and Geoffrey, Will makes it clear that he won’t be apologizing to Phil and can take care of himself.

Wil is focused on playing basketball as a pro, but for that, he needs to be trained by a good coach and get recruited. He has his eyes set on Doc and so, tries to show off his skills in a game against a major player called Big Dre. His moves are certainly impressive, but Doc just doesn’t have the bandwidth to take another player under his wing.

Disappointed, Will finally makes it to Ashley’s birthday party albeit late. Here, Phil himself goes up to him and offers an olive branch, apologizing. Unbeknownst to Will, Geoffrey had advised Phil to take Will back in fear he might fall back into his aggressive ways if he’s not under the Banks’ roof.

In the end, Will decides to move back and sort out his differences with his uncle and aunt.

2. Hilary and Jazz Take Their Relationship Public

The premiere’s second plotline revolves around Hilary. While she’s had a good share of wins lately, Ivy has been trying to cause her some trouble in the Influencer House. Thankfully, Hilary works up the courage to stand up to Ivy in more ways than one.

During this time, Jazz has been asking Hilary to take their relationship public with their first step being going to Ashley’s birthday as a couple. Hilary refuses this point-blank, but later when she sees Ivy flirting with Jazz, her jealousy gets the better of her and she finally introduces Jazz as her boyfriend to her parents.

3. All’s Well That Ends Well

There are loads of other minor plotlines that are woven through in the premiere. Let’s do a little round-up here:

We see Carlton back in action, trying to get up and cozy with Yazmin. In the process, he does invite some trouble his way from the Black Student Union — but it’s nothing he can’t handle.

Aunt Viv’s article also gets published, but she’s not painted in a favorable light at all.

During the party, Will also reunites with Lisa but tells her they can’t be together, at least not for the time being. It’s a little sad because she confesses that she loves him right after he leaves.

Towards the end of the episode, Doc decides to give Will another chance (things are really working out for him!) but only because he realizes that he’s related to Phil.

Oh, and Ashley birthday party is graced by the one and only Saweetie! That’s one grand way to end the episode!
