What happens to Billy Butcher at the end of The Boys Season 2?

The Boys Season 2 was all about finding the origins of the supes and how Vought was manufacturing tons of them like a machine. It turns out the company was doing precisely that, with the help of Compound V – a serum that gives superpowers to people.

Billy Butcher and the gang were back in the supes hunting business. This time they were all set to expose Vought and show its true colors to the world while also exposing how the supes were no heroes.

However, with Butcher, another arc was going on parallelly, which involved his wife, Becca, and her and Homelander’s son, Ryan. So, Butch not only wanted revenge from Homelander because he had raped and kidnapped his wife but also wanted to rescue her.

So, does Billy Butcher succeed in doing so? What happens to him in The Boys season 2 finale?

Butcher reunites with his wife temporarily, but she eventually dies. This is when Stormfront tries to kill her, and her son Ryan projects laser beams to save her. However, this kills Becca, who makes Billy promise that he’d protect Ryan.

The previous two seasons were quite long ago, so here’s a quick recap. In season 1, Butcher thinks that his wife was raped and killed by Homelander. So, he seeks revenge. However, in the finale, it is revealed that Becca is very much alive and has a son named Ryan.

In season 2, as the story unfolds, we find out that Homelander did rape Becca but didn’t kill her. She got pregnant with his child and was now raising him. His name is Ryan. However, she’s very much out of reach because the sinister supe is keeping her in an undisclosed location.

We see him try to locate her throughout the season, and he eventually does. However, she doesn’t want Ryan to get in the middle of his vengeance because he’s her son, no matter the circumstances.

Considering he’s Homelander’s son, too, the supe expects him to have superpowers like his father. However, he doesn’t get them unless he has all the rage channeling through him.

In the season 2 finale, there’s a fight between Billy’s gang and Homelander and his girlfriend, Stormfront. Unfortunately, Becca and Ryan are also stuck in this chaotic battle. Stormfront tries to kill Becca, and that’s when all the emotions channel through Ryan, which transforms into a powerful laser beam from his eyes like no one has ever seen before.

He directs them at Stormfront, but unfortunately, Becca gets fatally injured as well. This is because Ryan is just a kid and doesn’t know how to hit the target accurately. In her final moments, she makes Butcher promise that no matter what, he’d protect Ryan because it’s her son.

So season 2 ends with Butcher taking this oath. While Stormfront is almost killed and is permanently immobilized, Homelander is still around. So, Billy hands Ryan over to Grace Mallory, who’d helped him all along, hoping that she’d keep him safe.

The Boys season 3 is back with a bang and is better than ever before. It digs deeper into Vought’s background and unravels some horrific secrets, which is enough for Butcher to get back in the field.

About The Boys

The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.

The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
