Doctor Strange’s Episode of What If…? To Reveal Evil Sorcerer Supreme

New reports claim Marvels’ What If…? episode featuring Doctor Strange will reveal an evil version of the Sorcerer Supreme.

While Phase Four’s lineup is airing Loki currently on Disney+, it will be some time until it is followed up by Hawkeye slated to premiere later this year.

Until Jeremy Renner’s solo outing series has its debut, Marvels’ first animated show, What If…?, will fill up the gap.

Now, ahead of its August release, The Illuminerdi has revealed some very exciting details about the alternate destiny of Stephen Strange in the upcoming show.

In the original 2016 film, Strange adopts magic to regain control over his hands which were destroyed beyond repair in a car crash, practically putting his life at a standstill.

But according to new reports, What If…?’s version of the character will see Stephen turn to magic after the”death of his true love” leads him “down a darker path with dark and dangerous magic in an attempt to change his past.”

This version of the Sorcerer Supreme does sound very different from the one first introduced in Doctor Strange (2016) and then seen in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

But apart from that, the alternate storyline is probably the most anticipated episode of What If…? since it is expected to directly tie-up to Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Benedict Cumberbatch is set to reprise his role in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home before returning to portray the titular character in the second Doctor Strange solo film.

His appearance in the Tom Holland starring film then could spell interesting results for the multiverse’s setup.

Although how the animated series could connect to Spider-Man and what dark path Stephen ventures on remains to be seen.

However, the new storyline possesses some similarities with former Doctor Strange villain Kaecilius, played by Mads Mikkelsen, whose driving factor towards evil was his grief.

Thus, the upcoming series could see Stephen go down the same path.

The exclusive first look shared by Marvel Entertainment in December of last year also gave a few peeks at the darker version of Doctor Strange take on the beloved original live-action one.

But will our favorite Marvel magician survive this battle against himself? Only time will tell…
