The year did not start well for Jeremy Renner and his fans around the world.

The Avengers actor was recently hospitalized in a serious condition at a local hospital. Let’s get into further details regarding the injury.

What is Jeremy Renner’s injury?

Jeremy Renner suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries after a snow plow accidentally ran over one of his legs in his hometown in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. A neighbor, who is a doctor, managed to rush to the aid of the Hawkeye star.

After a tourniquet was applied to his injured leg, an air ambulance took Renner to a hospital near Reno.

The Marvel actor lost a significant amount of blood, and the injuries are reported to be extensive. Video obtained by the Post shows the moment just after he was loaded onto the chopper at around 9:50 AM on Sunday. The chopper can be seen on a snowy hill near the star’s Mt. Rose-Ski terrace home before taking off for the hospital. Renner’s family was with him at the time of the accident, his publicist says.

As per the police, one of Renner’s vehicles, being driven by a family member, became stuck in the snow near his house. Renner used his snowplow to tow his vehicle away successfully, but as he stepped out to talk to the family member, the snowplow began to roll.

Renner tried to get back into the snowplow, but he was run over by the heavy machinery, police said.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, in a press briefing on Tuesday, said that a 911 call was received shortly before 9 AM. PST on Sunday, reporting a crash between a snowplow and a pedestrian.

As per Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam, Renner had been using his snowcat to remove snow around his vehicle at the time of the accident.

Balaam said that authorities do not believe Renner was intoxicated during the incident and called it “a tragic accident.” He said Renner was awake and speaking with first responders when they arrived at the scene. When Renner was injured, his neighbors rendered aid and brought towels while waiting for first responders.

The actor was the only person involved in the accident, the Sheriff’s Office previously said in a news release. A helicopter landed in the vicinity of the highway at 9:37 AM PT, and at 9:56, Renner was taken to a Reno-area hospital, Balaam said. He also mentioned that the authorities do not suspect any foul play.

At the time of the incident, parts of western Nevada were covered with snow. A tremendous winter storm hit the area on New Year’s Eve and reportedly caused 35,000 homes to lose power.

The Reno area received around 6-12 inches of snow at elevations below 5,000 feet between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, and up to 18 inches at higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

The 51-year-old actor is recovering from two separate surgeries, where it’s been reported that he’s in “critical but stable condition.”

In his first post to social media since his New Year’s Day snow-plowing accident, the Hawkeye thanked his well-wishers for their “kind words”. In the short Instagram post, where he shared a selfie showing some facial bruising, Renner wrote, “Thank you all for your kind words. I’m too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Samantha Mast, Renner’s publicist, provided more details on the accident, saying the actor was near his Nevada home, clearing driveways before the incident.

Jeremy is making positive progress and is awake, talking, and in good spirits. He remains in ICU in critical but stable condition. He is overwhelmed by the showing of love and support. The family asks for your continued thoughts while he heals with his close loved ones.
