What Should You Know Before Watching The Bad Batch?

Star Wars: The Bad Batch was released in May and is two episodes away from the end of season 1. Perhaps, one of the most crucial plot premises in the Star Wars universe, The Bad Batch, changes the way we see Star Wars’ history forever. So what should you know before watching the show?

The Bad Batch season 1 is 14 episodes long, and until now, the story arc has left us all stunned. Since you’ve not watched it, I won’t be giving you any spoilers, but let me tell you that your mind is about to explode. You’re going to question things that you thought you already knew, and perhaps that’s what makes it such a great show!

While watching episode after episode, it just amazed me how a franchise so old can still surprise you in ways you would not expect. There is always going to be more.

So, according to IMDB, Star Wars: The Bad Batch follows the adventures of Clone Force 99 as they make their way through the ever-changing galaxy in the aftermath of The Clone Wars. Nothing is revealed in this description, but there’s a whole lot of surprises waiting for you.

It is connected to a couple of Star Wars films and shows, and the storyline is born from those premises. So what should you know before watching The Bad Batch?

Before watching The Bad Batch, you should know the story of Revenge Of The Sith and The Clone Wars, season 7, thoroughly. You can also watch Star Wars Rebels to enjoy the easter eggs laid through the current series.

The Bad Batch storyline finds its premise in Revenge Of The Sith and the story arc of Bad Batch members who appear in The Clone Wars. You can watch Rebels for how good it is, but it’s only optional if you are too eager to catch the latest series.

I’ll just give you a quick brief about these two titles so that you get a rough idea of what’s The Bad Batch going to be about. But, don’t be lazy or in a hurry. Watch the titles I mentioned because they will add to your experience when you start The Bad Batch, and it’ll all be worth it.

Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith (Episode III)

What Should You Know Before Watching The Bad Batch?
Anakin Skywalker

The ending of Revenge Of The Sith shows Order 66 from the perspective of Anakin Skywalker, who turned towards the dark side and became Darth Vader. We see the Jedis being slaughtered by their clones, and some of the known faces who tragically die are Plo Koon, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Aayla Secura.

Inside the Jedi temple, Darth Vader mercilessly kills former brethren. Another critical scene shows the hologram of Emperor Palpatine announce his reign and the newly formed Galactic Empire.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7

The Bad Batch makes their first appearance in this series, and we’re introduced to the members – Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, and Crosshairs along with commander Rex. This series is also crucial since the stories lead to a fifth member, Echo joining The Bad Batch.

The show covers the Separatists’ war wherein The Bad Batch and Rex rescue a clone called Echo, who was thought to be dead. From here, Echo, who was turned into a cyborg while being held by the Separatists, uses his new abilities and defeats them, thus getting the title, Hero Of Anaxes. It is after this mission that Echo decides to join The Bad Batch.

The show also depicts how The Bad Batch is a group of defective clones due to their mutations. And Echo, who turned ‘defective’ when he was transformed into a cyborg, finds his tribe and joins The Bad Batch. This is a crucial detail that will play out in the current series. So keep an eye out for that.

But this is not all. There’s one last piece that you can catch in this show, though it is optional. In the last few episodes of The Clone Wars Season 7, we see Order 66 from the perspective of Ahsoka Tano and commando Rex.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch

In Star Wars: The Bad Batch, we see a couple of scenes recreated to depict the perspective of The Bad Batch members. The first scene is when they see the clones killing Jedi Master Depa Billaba. However, they do not do so and let her Padawan Caleb Dume escape.

Later, when they all gather on the Kamino along with the clone army, they see Palpatine’s hologram as he declares a new Galactic Empire. This is almost an exact recreation of the scene from Revenge Of The Sith.

With this begins the storyline of The Bad Batch. Why did they not turn onto the Jedi? What will happen to these misfits next is the story of Star Wars: The Bad Batch!
