Ant-Man 3 Re-shots Beg the Question – What Was the Original Ending?

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opened to mixed reviews at the box office, which may have had to do with how the film ended. If you haven’t watched the movie, it’d be best for you to skip this article, but if you want to know the original ending of the threequel, please continue reading.

The film’s theatrical cut ended with Kang the Conqueror’s defeat and Hope Van Dyne and Scott Lang’s return to their world from the Quantum Realm. But the film’s happy ending was originally a whole lot darker.

If you felt that the cut to Cassie saving her dad and Hope and then the Van Dynes and Langs celebrating in peace was a bit abrupt, you were right. The film’s script was leaked before the global premiere, and the ending was much different.

Scott and Hope

The film initially showed Kang managing to escape, stranding Hope and Scott in the Quantum Realm with Cassie vowing to save the couple but more concerned about an incoming threat. The exiled one’s escape and Scott and Hope’s imprisonment would’ve certainly been darker and would hasten Kang’s rule on the Multiverse.

The MCU probably felt that if the Conqueror escaped so early into Phase Five, the future of Earth in all universes would turn much grimmer too quickly. Kang’s plan of multiversal domination would’ve followed his introduction, thus leaving no room for our heroes to save their worlds.

But after the fandom was promised a new big bad, it was underwhelming when the underdog of the Avengers managed to take him down with the help of evolved ants. Perhaps the happy ending Loveness reshot for Ant-Man 3 in January 2023 wasn’t the best way to go at it, but it was still necessary to lengthen the process of fully exploring the might of Kang and not just one variant of him.

Kang the Conqueror

And even despite his “death” after Scott destroyed his Time Chair’s core, the Conqueror might not be dead, and many theories are putting him up as Victor Timely in season 2 of Loki, hiding and biding his time to rule the multiverse starting with the TVA.

I don’t know what to expect, but I hope the MCU knows what they’re doing after they made such last-minute changes to the movie that kickstarted Phase 5 and introduced the next Thanos-level antagonist.
