What Happens To Dan Espinoza In Lucifer Season 6?

Lucifer season 6 was like a joyride of emotions for me. There were several moments which will either make you cry or laugh.

Dan Espinoza’s death in season 5 was probably one of the most heart-breaking moments of the series.

But things don’t end with death in Lucifer because we’re in the territory of the devil himself! Season 6 finally tells us what happens to Dan after his death and it’s a perfect ending for his character IMO.

Dan was stuck in hell in the beginning of season 6 as he was guilty of not being a good father to Trixie. But after his brief return to earth as a soul and a heart-to-heart conversation with Trixie, he overcomes his guilt. So finally, he does end up in heaven.

All’s well that ends well!

If you’ve not finished binging Lucifer’s final season, then it goes without saying there are spoilers ahead.

What Is Dan Guilty Of?

In the beginning of season 6, we see that Dan is trapped in Hell. So obviously, Lucifer has not yet been successful in helping his friend crossover to Heaven.

Thankfully, this doesn’t last for long. Rory to the rescue. She strikes a deal to send Dan back to Earth in return for him telling her how he almost killed Lucifer back when he was alive.

But there’s a price to be paid and Dan realizes that once he returns to Earth.

It turns out that he is no longer a human, but only a soul.

Dan is officially a ghost now, which means only other supernatural beings can see him. But there’s also a silver lining to the cloud: in his time on Earth, Dan realizes what he was guilty of and why he was stuck in Hell.

Dan was guilty of leaving Trixie behind and not being able to be by her side as a good father.

Does He Get Rid Of The Guilt?

After some unexpected turn of events, Dan, as a ghost (or spirit, or soul or whatever you want to call him) manages to possess the body of the man who killed him in season 5.

In this way, he would be able to interact with other human beings, including Trixie, through the medium of the possessed body.

And that’s exactly what he does.

I loved how the scene between Dan (through the medium) and Trixie was done. If you’re like me, it might even make you teary.

Trixie

In a really emotional scene, Dan has a heart-to-heart conversation with Trixie where he expresses his guilt for not being able to be a good father to her.

He introduced himself as a friend of Dan and Maze to Trixie and expresses his disappointment and guilt for leaving her. All this was obviously in third person because he could not tell Trixie he is actually the ghost of his father.

But Trixie, being the total sweetheart that she is, told Dan that she was proud to have Dan as a dad and even if he is gone now, he would always be by her side.

I am paraphrasing the lines, but do watch out for this scene. This bittersweet moment was one of the best scenes in the season for me and made for the best ending for Dan.

So, once Trixie assures that Dan had been a great father to her and she will always love him, Dan manages to overcome his guilt.

Does Dan Make It To Heaven?

Dan managed to overcome his guilt after having the much-needed moment with his daughter Trixie. Hence, he finally makes his way to heaven.

Dan is in Heaven

In the season finale, it was confirmed that Dan did go to heaven. In one scene, we can see Dan reunited with Charlotte in Heaven. So yes, Dan finally makes it into heaven.

Dan deserved this happy and satisfying ending IMO and I am glad he got it.
