Razzlekhan: Everything to Know About Hulu’s New True Crime Miniseries

Hulu is developing a true crime miniseries based on the real-life scandal involving the alleged crypto laundering couple, Heather “Razzlekhan” Morgan and Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein. The series is based on a February 2022 New York Times report titled “The Many Lives of Crypto’s Most Notorious Couple”, authored by Kevin T. Dugan and Matt Stieb.

Lily Collins (from Emily in Paris) is all set to star as Morgan in the project, which she is also producing alongside her real-life husband, Charlie McDowell, and Alex Orlovsky. McDowell will also be directing the project.

According to recent reports by Deadline, the series is still in development, though some of the story has already been put into place. It will explore the perspective of the infamous couple, as well as hackers and law enforcement officers.

The series will focus on Heather Morgan and Ilya Lichtenstein, a struggling entrepreneur couple who were accused of laundering $4.5 billion in stolen Bitcoin. After the two were arrested in February, over $3 billion was recovered by authorities. They faced up to 25 years in prison and have been in talks with prosecutors on a plea deal.

The plot of the miniseries has been described as a love story and a crime thriller. It will explore the various struggles faced by Morgan and Lichtenstein when they tried to cash in on a hard drive full of stolen Bitcoin.

The title, Razzlekhan, is a direct reference to Heather Morgan’s screen name as a YouTube rapper, while the subtitle, Infamous Crocodile of Wall Street, is how Morgan used to refer to herself online.

Razzlekhan might be similar to Searchlight Television’s first production, The Dropout, starring Amanda Seyfried, as this show is also being produced by them. Scott Wasserstein has also come on board as executive producer for Razzlekhan, representing New York Magazine and Vox Media.

After Collins’ role, the role of Ilya Lichtenstein, Morgan’s husband will definitely be the most significant one in the series. However, many of Hulu’s previous true crime shows have taken a female-centric perspective. Moreover, the series itself is named after Heather “Razzlekhan” Morgan and not her better half. So, it is probable that the show will focus more on Morgan than on Lichtenstein.

Patricia Arquette and Amanda Seyfried have previously starred in Hulu’s true crime shows and went on to win Emmys for their performances. The streaming platform surely has a good track record when it comes to the genre of true crime.

The makers have not announced an official release date for Razzlekhan yet, but we will keep you updated. Watch this space for more!
