Peacemaker season finale left us with several unanswered questions and open-ended arcs. We still don’t know how would the events affect characters such as Judomaster and Amanda Waller. One other character whose arc didn’t get closure was that of Peacemaker.
Peacemaker was successful in killing the Cow and fulfilling Project Butterfly mission, but there are so many other aspects of his character that have loose ends. After Adebayo exposes Waller and proves Peacemaker’s innocence, we know that Peacemaker is going to stay out of trouble for a while. However, his problems are far from over.
Will Peacemaker’s crimes in Corto Maltese catch up with him soon? Will he lose his mind because of The White Dragon’s lingering presence in his life, even after his death? Essentially, what will happen to Peacemaker next?
Peacemaker is seeing his father in his hallucinations due to his traumatic past. In season 2 he will likely try to rise above his father’s hate and toxicity, to become a better person and be a better antihero/superhero.
In episode 8 we saw Peacemaker talk to his father who was merely a figment of his imagination. This showcases that Chris (Peacemaker) is still not over his traumatic past and is mentally stuck with his father’s presence in his life.
Throughout the season we didn’t see The White Dragon and Peacemaker have many conversations, but one thing was evident. Peacemaker always had his traumatic past somewhere at the back of his head, no matter what he did; whether he fought the butterflies or interacted with the members of Task Force X. This just shows how affected Peacemaker was with his father’s existence.
Considering the Justice League made an appearance in Peacemaker season finale, we might see Peacemaker in other series/movies of the same universe. However, this might not delve into his own character arc and his relationship with his father, since there will be other plots and characters that would take the center stage.
One of the many things I liked about season 1 is how Peacemaker is introduced to the DCEU. This gives the character a chance to be a part of bigger events and face bigger villains. Season 2 has been confirmed by HBO Max and it is likely that we will see Peacemaker deal with his inner demons in it.
While this could happen in multiple ways and Peacemaker might go down different paths, this entire journey would be a core sub plot of season 2. Currently, James Gunn said that he’s working with another spin-off series, we will probably see Peacemaker season 2 release in 2023 or 2024 and that might portray the mindset of Peacemaker after the events of season 1.
