Superman & Lois Season 3 Release Date, Plot, Recap, and more

Superman & Lois wrapped up its second season in June 2022. Its triumphant finale saw the Man of Steel overcome the all-powerful Parasite Ally Allston and protect the two worlds from her plan to merge them.

Six months on, the fans still keep gushing about the show, and the recent media attention has just accelerated that. The CW’s sale to Nexstar (and their subsequent plans to change it significantly) has made the fans worry about the future of Superman & Lois Season 3.

Production on Season 3 has been underway since September, and fans have questions regarding the third season and its potential storyline. Let’s dive into these questions.

1. When will Superman & Lois Season 3 be released?

With a total of 15 episodes scheduled, Season 3 of Superman & Lois will premiere on The CW on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. So, if you are concerned about whether or not there will be new episodes of the show, you can rest knowing it is coming back for at least one more season.

However, there are some big changes ahead. There are villains new and old showing up, a cast change, and more drama as the Super-family races into a new era of adventure.

We have seen how the CW series is a departure both literally and figuratively from other Arrowverse shows in terms of its storytelling and is more serialized than the ‘villain of the week’ trope.

2. Season 3 Cast and Crew

Coming back to the series will be the titular leads Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch, along with Alex Garfin, who plays their superpowered son Jordan Kent. We are well aware that Jordan Elsass, who played Clark and Lois’ other son Jonathan in Seasons 1 and 2, has left the show due to mental health struggles.

Michael Bishop replaces Jordan Elsass as Jonathan Kent in the third season. He’s already been seen in set photos, acting with Tulloch and smiling at the camera. Dylan Walsh, who plays Lois’ father, General Sam Lane, will be returning, too.

The other remaining families on the show, the Cushings and the father-daughter duo, the Irons, will be back as well. Emmanuelle Sophie Anne Chriqui as Lana Lang Cushing, Inde Navarrette as Sarah Cushing, and Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing will have a lot to work out come Season 3, after the fracturing of the family. Sofia Hasmik returns, too, as Chrissy Beppo, Lois’ journalist partner.

The casting news for which fans have been patiently waiting has been out, too.

Chad L. Coleman from The Orville has been cast as the new villain, the iconic DC comic bad guy Bruno Mannheim. He was referenced in Season 2, and in the comic book, he’s known for going to some very dark places to get the job done.

Bruno Mannheim is known to most of Metropolis as a local hero, a philanthropist who’s revived the struggling neighborhoods of the city. For years, Lois Lane has worked to prove that behind that facade is a career criminal and the head of the notorious organization Intergang. With some new leads, she might be closer than ever.

3. Superman & Lois Season 2 Recap

Let’s jog up your memory and take a look at what happened in Season 2.

The second season of Superman & Lois saw the Kents battle it out on multiple fonts. Superman’s monstrous counterpart from Bizzaro World came to Smallville, and they had to duke it out. But as it turns out, he was only the appetizer. Cult leader Ally Allston proved to be the real threat when she absorbed her followers’ energies using a psychological program called the Inverse Method that followed her pendant.

As we know, Ally Allston was the ruler of the Bizarro World. She traveled to Superman’s earth to merge the worlds so she could become the absolute ruler.

After absorbing Superman’s powers, Ally merged with her Bizzaro counterpart. He then teamed up with his brother and successfully reformed villain Tal-Rho (Adam Rayner). He was thrown into the sun for a solar energy recharge, giving him the strength to stop Ally from completing the convergence.

4. What is the plot of Superman & Lois Season 3?

The third season of Superman & Lois opens weeks after Superman’s blowout defeat of Ally Allston. Clark and Lois are now presumed to be working at the Smallville Gazette together and enjoying small-town life.

Chrissy struggles in balancing her new love life as well as her friendship with Lois. She cannot hide the fact of how isolating the secret is, no matter how much the Kents’ romantic bliss tries coating it.

Lois’ work-life balance is tested when an undercover assignment reveals a deadly foe that promises to change the Kent family forever. Superman would move heaven and earth for his family, but with a villain this merciless, even that might not be enough.

The Kent boys, too, find themselves being pulled in opposite directions, as Jordan discovers what a superhero identity means and Jonathan searches for a purpose beyond the football field.

Jordan’s powers grew leaps and bounds in Season 2, and with his grandfather helping him train, it won’t be a surprise if they keep on growing or even exceed Superman’s. We saw him get in serious trouble for using the X-Kryptonite in his attempts to have powers like his father and brother.

However, he’s since learned his lesson and is off the stuff. It’s been teased that he’ll take a more technological path. With the new Fortress of Solitude located in the middle of the ocean, he’ll have a lot to do, come Season 3.

Amid all this, John Henry’s (Wole Parks) haunted past related to his doppelganger promises shocking consequences for him and Natalie (Taylor Buck), for which we are not yet prepared.

Lana Lang and Kyle redefine their family post-separation. We might see Sarah explore what the future holds for her and Jordan, now that she knows the truth about his powers. General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh) reclaims his post at the Department of Defense, only to face conflict in working with his grandson, Jordan.

Everyone in the main cast (except Kyle Cushing, who’s on the outs after cheating on Lana in the past) knows Superman’s secret identity now, so those closest to Clark will probably be more involved in his superhero life.

5. Will Atom-Man return in Superman & Lois Season 3?

The set photos teased the potential return of the Season 1 villain Atom-Man for the season premiere, leaving the fans excited.

In Season 1 Episode 11, A Brief Reminiscence In-Between Cataclysmic Events, Clark recalled his early days and meeting Lois for the first time.

We are well aware that Henry Miller was a Neo-Nazi who became enraged when non-white immigrants started buying properties in his Lower Metropolis neighborhood. He put on a metal mask and a trench coat and became a terrorist, destroying businesses with a flamethrower and grenades.

Lois was blocked from getting her story out and telling the truth. Superman had to come out and stop Atom-Man from burning down another establishment, and Lois took him out by tasing him.

The set photos have made the fans speculate whether Atom-Man breaks out of prison now, or whether he already served his sentence, considering the amount of time that has passed. He might be working with Bruno Mannheim, given that the villains have had associations in the past. Bruno will be the main antagonist and the build-up of the confrontation is surely going to be thrilling for the viewers.

With this being Atom-Man’s second go-round with the Man of Steel, he’ll no doubt have some heavier firepower if he hopes to hurt him.

Superman & Lois Season 2 received a positive reception from the critics and the audience as well. We’ll just have to patiently wait to see whether Season 3 lives up to the expectations or not.
