Ever since the first half of the new season wrapped up in December 2021, there are a few storylines left hanging for the mid-season to pick up.

As the state of things now suggests, the group has to deal with Superboy’s supposed death, which some fans believe is quite suspicious. Beast Boy is still dealing with his depression, and then there’s Zatanna and her academy students, who have to handle hosting duties for Doctor Fate.

With a montage of various clips, it also features some old faces like Orion and Metron returning to help the team. The trailer promises to reveal all the answers from the first half of the season and set up more action for the mystical heroes.

In a new interview with EW, co-creators Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti talked about what fans can expect from the second half of season 4.

Vietti teased that the story will indulge in the characters’ pasts which lead to ‘consequences’ of their actions in the present,

Our show has often been about how events and actions from a character’s past can follow them. Actions have consequences in our series, they are like phantoms. This has been even more impactful in our fourth season, and will be made more clear in the second half.

Phantoms is set 10 years after the first episode of Young Justice. As the cast has grown a lot since then, the creators wanted to go back to ‘check in’ with the original team. Weisman added,

We wanted to give attention to where our surviving season 1 team members are in their lives. From their point of view, it’s been 10 years since they went to Cadmus and rescued Superboy. Where are they now? Unlike a lot of superhero shows where characters are eternally youthful, our characters age and grow and evolve. It seemed right at the 10-year mark, from their perspective, to check in with them in some detail and see where they were.

As the trailer mentions a spring release for the series, Young Justice: Phantoms can be expected to return on HBO Max sometime between March and June.
