The Last of Us E2: Joel And Ellie’s Next Destination Decoded!

The Last of Us episode 2 ended with the heartbreaking death of Tess, leaving Joel and Ellie to head toward their next destination. If you’re wondering where they’re headed and what’s coming up for the duo next in the series, we’ve got you covered!

Episode 2 saw Joel, Ellie and Tess encounter two Clickers in the museum, where Tess got bitten by one of the Clickers. However, the trio did not give up and continued to move towards the State House to safely escort Ellie to the Fireflies. But unfortunately, the Fireflies in the State House were infected as well.

Though Tess was already infected, she implored Joel to continue the mission without her and safely escort Ellie to the Fireflies. At the end of episode 2, Tess gives up her life to give Joel and Ellie enough time to escape. The episode ends with Joel and Ellie heading to their next destination.

If you remember the radio song which was played at the end of The Last of Us episode 1, it was a big hint at Joel and Ellie’s next destination. Tess actually asks Joel to take Ellie to two of their smuggling contacts, Bill and Frank.

In other words, Joel and Ellie are heading to Frank and Bill, two of Joel’s old smuggling contacts, at the end of The Last of Us episode 2. The two live in a town outside the Boston QZ, which is where Joel is taking Ellie.

Why are Joel and Ellie going to Bill and Frank?

In The Last of Us episode 2, Tess tells Joel to take Ellie to Frank and Bill so that they’re able to take the responsibility of escorting Ellie to the Fireflies from Joel. While it is true that it is difficult to trust them with Ellie completely, there are a couple of reasons why they can be trusted with the job.

Bill and Frank

Since Bill and Frank live outside the Boston QZ, they’re unencumbered by the FFEDRA. This means they have more freedom to move about and have control over their personal belongings. Moreover, they surely have suitable belongings to safely escort Ellie to the Fireflies, such as supplies, vehicles, and definitely some good weapons.

Keeping all of this in mind, Bill and Frank seem to be more capable of taking Ellie to the Fireflies than Joel alone.

Bill and Frank Aren’t Completely Out of Danger

We’re living in a zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic world; we just can’t be completely out of danger, can we?

Depeche Mode’s “Never Let Me Down Again”  at the end of episode 1 is a clear radio code hint at Bill and Frank’s future. This song dates back to the 80s, which means the duo has been in danger before. Joel and Ellie have to either discover or overcome this danger after meeting Bill and Frank.

Moreover, Joel and Ellie heading to Bill and Frank also mark one of the most significant changes in the series from the original video game. Creators Mazin and Druckmann have already confirmed that the show will bring about a major change in Bill and Frank’s track, which we’ll most likely know more about in the upcoming episode 3.
