Who let the dinos out? That’s exactly what Jurassic World Dominion is all about! As the concluding chapter to both the Jurassic World and Jurassic Park trilogies, the movie has certainly brought out all the big guns, and I’m not just talking about the dinosaurs here.
Jurassic World Dominion will feature many iconic original characters, some of whom will be on screen together after nearly three decades.
The original Jurassic Park characters that appear in Jurassic World Dominion are Dr. Ellie Sattler, Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ian Malcom, Dr. Lewis Dodgson, and Dr. Henry Wu.
If you haven’t watched the original trilogy or simply need a refresher, read on to find a brief summary of each character:
1. Dr. Ellie Sattler
She is one of the original protagonists of Jurassic Park and specializes in paleobotany. She is portrayed to care deeply about the cloned dinosaurs and advocates for ethical progress in ecological sciences.
She briefly appeared in Jurassic Park 3, where she aided Dr. Grant over the phone when he was in trouble. Dominion will be her proper reprisal after 1993’s Jurassic Park.
2. Dr. Alan Grant
Grant is the main protagonist of the Jurassic Park novels and the first and third movies of the original trilogy. But his novel and film personas are quite different, as the latter is made to be more of an introvert who prefers his dinosaurs less cloned or alive.
After barely surviving in Jurassic Park 3, he has supposedly taken the backseat, now only studying fossilized dinosaurs. Of course, when his the-one-who-got-away Sattler asks him to help her in Dominion, he really can’t refuse.
3. Dr. Ian Malcom
He has the coolest made-up profession—a chaotician (which is actually a field in math, more than social or evolutionary sciences). He has been talking about his doomsday scenarios around unethical dino cloning in Jurassic Park 1 and 2, and Jurassic World 2 and 3. But no one still seems to be taking him seriously.
Hopefully, that will all change in Dominion. Although he doesn’t have the most screentime, his sarcastic quips make him one of the most entertaining characters in the Jurassic films.
4. Dr. Lewis Dodgson
Dodgson was one of the antagonists of Jurassic Park, an employee of a rival bioengineering company who bribed an InGen employee to steal dinosaur embryos. It was this whole masterplan gone wrong that led to the dinosaurs breaking out of Jurassic Park in the first movie.
While Dodgson wasn’t the biggest antagonist in the original film, it is fitting for him to return, as he’s the one who caused all the mess in the first place. He’s now the big boss of his own company Biosyn that claims to be providing the escaped dinosaurs a safe haven.
5. Dr. Henry Wu
Wu has appeared in four Jurassic films previously, with Dominion being his fifth. He is a skilled geneticist, with a fancy for patching together different dinosaur genes and making really terrifying creatures… which is the complete opposite of his own personality and morals.
So, even though his intentions seem to be in the right place, his creatures end up causing a lot of havoc in the movies. I think Dominion is no exception.
6. About Jurassic World: Dominion
