Does someone die in Marvel’s Eternals?

Marvel’s Eternals was an intriguing film that brought the franchise closer to science and mysticism as a genre. This is one of the first ensemble movies where the characters don’t have separate films.

What left me a little more stumped was the tonality of the film and the number of deaths I saw within a span of two and a half hours.

However, the deaths left me unfazed because I had just met these characters, and with all the events going on, I barely had the time to know, understand, and invest in them.

So the deaths just turned me off a bit, which greatly influenced a grey and gloomy tonality of the film, unlike any other Marvel film.

If you’re someone who doesn’t want to be shocked by the deaths or have lost count of all fatalities by the end of the film, this article is just for you. I’ve listed down all the significant deaths from the movie and how they occur below.

In Eternals, we see crucial characters such as Ikaris, Gilgamesh, Ajak, and numerous other deviants die due to multiple reasons such as cold-blooded murder, suicide, and more.

1. Ajak

Ajak

The leader of Eternals was killed by Ikaris, who was the second-in-command. He fed her to the Deviants and decided that the Eternals needed to fulfill their mission and give rise to Tiamut – The Communicator.

2. Ikaris

Ikaris

At the end of the film, Ikaris flies into the sun and kills himself since he cannot defeat Sersi and the rest of the Eternals. However, he has mixed emotions because he also feels guilty for everything he did and realizes that he doesn’t deserve to live.

So just like in the mythical story of Ikaris, we see the character fly too close to the sun and burn himself.

3. Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh was perhaps one of the most genuine characters who didn’t deserve to die. He spent his entire existence for everything around him.

Gilgamesh

First, he fought all the deviants and protected the planet, and then he took care of Thena, who was falling more and more ill due to her condition called Mahd Wy’ry.

He dies in a battle as Kro sucks out his cosmic essence as he tries to protect Thena and the others from the Deviants.

4. Kro

Kro

Kro is the leader of the Deviants and the first Deviant on Earth. He was leading the Deviants army against the Eternals who were trying to stop the Emergence of the Celestial.

However, in the final battle against Thena, he tries to absorb her cosmic essence but fails to do so and is killed in the process.

5. Tiamut – The Communicator

Tiamut – The Communicator is the Celestial who comes out of the Earth towards the movie’s end.

However, Sersi, along with the other Eternals, successfully creates the Uni-mind with which she freezes The Communicator while it is emerging and stops it midway.

Besides these, there were deaths of about 15 deviants. While there are fan theories of Ikaris and Gilgamesh returning to the franchise, there’s no real news, and we just have to wait and find out.
