Fans were especially ecstatic to see Darcy and Jimmy again after Thor and Antman and the Wasp, respectively.

So, who are Jimmy and Darcy, and how are their backstories aligning with WandaVision – let us find out one character at a time.

1. Who is Dr. Darcy Lewis?

Fans will remember Jane Foster’s (Natalie Portman) cheeky intern Darcy Lewis (Kat Jennings) from the 2011 movie Thor. In WandaVision Episode 4, Darcy is no longer the hapless intern majoring in political science and out to build an impressive resume. She is a doctorate in astrophysics who lends her services to the secretive government agency SWORD every now and then.

On WandaVision, Darcy has been asked to analyze the mysterious energy field surrounding the ‘missing’ town of Westview.

It is Darcy who discovers the radiation emitted by Westview and the broadcast waves hidden between them. Darcy also identifies the two Avengers, Wanda and Vision, who seem to be living in a sitcom.

In fact, it is her hands in front of the TV set we see at the end of Episode 1. (Do you recall, or did you just go back to check?)

I. What Does Darcy Do on WandaVision?

The former 2 Broke Girls star Kat Jennings made her MCU debut as Darcy Lewis with 2011’s Thor, returning for the 2013 sequel subtitled The Dark World. On WandaVision, Darcy returns as an astrophysics expert for SWORD.

One of the central concepts in Thor is how the universe is comprised of the Nine interconnected Realms that include Asgard and Midgard (a.k.a. Earth). In the second Thor movie, Thor: The Dark World, Darcy continued her work with Jane studying the bridges and portals that allow travel among these realms.

Both of Darcy’s Thor adventures involved run-ins with SHIELD — of which SWORD is an offshoot — so she’s long been on its radar. Thus, explaining her appearance on WandaVision.

Darcy’s former boss Jane Foster, set to return in Thor 3, is unlikely to reunite with her apprentice in WandaVision. But Darcy’s work on the show is a direct tribute to everything she learned from Foster. Darcy is also going to have an increasingly important role going ahead on the show.

An older rumor from September 2020 had reported that Darcy would play a significant role in the show involving Vision. That report detailed that Darcy would be “informing a very confused Vision of the tragic circumstances of his death.”

2. Who is Agent Jimmy Woo?

As proposed by many theories around the mysterious man on the radio in earlier episodes of WandaVision, Jimmy Woo reprised his role on the series as an FBI agent.

Jimmy Woo made his jump from comics to MCU with Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) as the FBI agent tasked with keeping tabs on Scott Lang. You might recall that Jimmy’s card trick on WandaVision was taught to him by Scott on Ant-Man.

Unlike Darcy, Jimmy has been around much longer in Marvel comics. The character first appeared in the disturbingly racist 1956 comic Yellow Claw No. 1 as an FBI agent working to take down the book’s titular Asian villain. As one of the comics’ rare Chinese American heroes, Jimmy’s character was a saving grace for the Yellow Claw’s disgusting racist tropes.

The connection with SHIELD was something common to both Darcy and Jimmy. In later comics, Jimmy was featured as the leader of a gang he had taken over from Yellow Claw., Agents of Atlas. The team was last seen in The New Agents of Atlas (2019), featuring a line up of Asian and Asian American heroes, including Amadeus Cho, Cindy Moon, and Shang-Chi.

WandaVision’s latest episode confirmed that fans knew all along. Wanda’s powers are behind Westview’s suspicious sitcom reality, but there is still a lot more to be revealed. It remains to be seen how Team Jimmy and Darcy will piece more of the puzzle.
