Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3: Who Lives & Who Dies in the Final Chapter

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ends with some surprising deaths and the breakup of the team. The Guardians face their final challenges in the MCU’s Phase 5, confronting their past and choosing to go their separate ways. Along the way, they encounter deadly threats that are even worse than their old foes like Ronan, Ego, and Thanos.

The trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hinted at the deaths of Drax or Rocket, or maybe more, with scenes of Star-Lord and Mantis in tears, a hurt Drax barely walking, and sad glimpses of Rocket Raccoon’s past.

In the movie, Rocket, Groot, Nebula, Drax, and Star-Lord all face near-death situations at different times. But James Gunn surprises everyone by giving the Guardians a happy ending in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 without killing off any of the heroes.

None of the main characters die in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, some of the supporting characters die in the film, including Lylla, Teefs, and Floor. The main villain, High Evolutionary, is also believed to have died in the film.

1. None of the Guardians Die in Vol. 3

We can all breathe a sigh of relief, as none of the Guardians die in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, almost all of them escape near death in various ways.

The Guardians

Adam Warlock shows up in Knowhere and starts a fight with the Guardians of the Galaxy, as the Sovereign wanted him to do. He damages Groot’s and Nebula’s bodies and hurts Rocket Raccoon badly.

Groot and Nebula can heal themselves, but Rocket Raccoon is dying, and the Guardians can’t use their MedPacks because of a chip in Rocket’s heart that makes it explode. The chip is from the High Evolutionary, who experimented on Rocket.

The Guardians of the Galaxy sneak into the High Evolutionary’s company OrgoCorp to try to save Rocket Raccoon. There, Drax gets shot by an alien played by Nathan Fillion, but the Guardians fix him up.

Later, on the High Evolutionary’s Counter-Earth, Star-Lord almost dies in space like Yondu did in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 when he tries to save the High Evolutionary’s creatures and bring them to Knowhere. Adam Warlock saves him at the last moment.

2. High Evolutionary Dies in His Spaceship

The High Evolutionary is a very strong MCU villain. He has many helpers, a big ship, and mind powers. But the Guardians of the Galaxy don’t fight him right away.

They sneak into OrgoCorp to get the files that tell them about Rocket Raccoon’s past and how to save him, and then they free the High Evolutionary’s creatures. When the High Evolutionary finds them, they fight him and beat him up fast.

The Guardians all join in to beat up the High Evolutionary, and Gamora stabs him with her sword. The Guardians take off his face and see the damage that Rocket did when he fought him for killing Lylla.

Rocket doesn’t want to kill him, but the Guardians leave him on his ship, and it explodes with him on it. The Guardians save all the creatures from High Evolutionary.

3. Rocket’s Best Friend, Lylla Faces a Heart-breaking Death

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. is still very sad, even though none of the Guardians die. Some of the other deaths in the movie are very painful. When Rocket is dying, we see his past.

Lylla

He made a key to get out of the High Evolutionary’s prison. He tried to free his friends, but the High Evolutionary found out and killed Rocket’s best friend, Lylla the Otter, right after she got out of her cage.

Lylla dies before she can see the sky like Rocket wanted, but she meets him again when he’s dying. Rocket says he’s sorry for not saving her and that he wants to stay with her, but Lylla tells him that he still has a life to live and that he can’t join her yet. Star-Lord brings Rocket back to life, and Rocket feels better about Lylla’s death.

4. Rocket’s Best Friends, Teefs and Floor Die

Rocket has two more friends in prison in Guardians 3, the bunny Floor and the walrus Teefs. They also die trying to get out.

When the High Evolutionary shoots Lylla, Rocket gets angry and tears off his face. But he can’t save his friends, who get shot by the bad guys. Floor and Teefs are also with Lylla and Rocket when he’s dying, and they have their gadgets on them.

5. Ayesha

The High Evolutionary made the Sovereign, Rocket Raccoon, Orgo-Corp, and a planet like Earth called Counter-Earth. Ayesha calls the High Evolutionary her maker, but she loves Adam Warlock as her son.

The High Evolutionary tells Ayesha to send Adam Warlock to get Rocket Raccoon while Counter-Earth blows up. Adam Warlock has to fight Gamora, and he can’t save Ayesha from a blast.

Ayesha

Adam Warlock is hurt but gets away, and he feels bad for Ayesha’s death. He becomes friends with the Guardians and helps Star-Lord and stays with them in Knowhere.

So, even though Adam Warlock looked like he was going to destroy the Guardians in Vol. 2’s post-credits scene and at the start of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he and Ayesha were not as bad as the Guardians thought. Adam Warlock even joins Rocket Raccoon’s new team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s post-credits scene.
