The Bad Batch S2 Ep 6 Teases a Jedi Hunter on the Prowl

In Season 2 Ep 6, The Bad Batch tackles a new mission on Kashyyyk, a planet we’re thoroughly familiar with through its previous depictions in the Star Wars universe. But what’s even more surprising is that we meet yet another familiar character, the Wookie Jedi, Gungi!

While fans will be super happy to see the Jedi survive Order 66 and back in action, the episode clearly depicts that Gungi is in big trouble. In fact, it is Omega who happens to discover that this Wookie is being kidnapped by droids in order to be sold to a mysterious buyer.

So who exactly is trying to capture Gungi and why?

The Bad Batch S2 Ep 6 does not reveal the buyer who is trying to capture Gungi. However, it is possible that the buyer is either someone working for the Empire or Trandoshans, who are known to hate Wookies.

I have to admit, this episode does not shed light on a lot of questions. To begin with, we’re not told how exactly Gungi has survived Order 66 and what he was doing so far — in fact, we don’t even learn about how he was kidnapped by the droids.

Gungi

What we do know is that the droids were planning on selling him to a mysterious buyer. As per what all the information we have so far, this mysterious buyer could be either of two parties:

  • The Empire: Either someone high-up in the Empire or one of the officers may have put out a hit for Gungi. While they still have their clone troopers ordered to strike down Jedis, Gungi escaping the first time around could’ve put him on a special wanted list.
  • Trandoshans: Gungi could’ve been kidnapped not because he was a Jedi, but because he’s a Wookie. If you didn’t know, Trandoshans harbor a deep hatred for Wookies to the extent of killing them, skinning them, and selling their hides. This is depicted even later in the episode. So it’s possible that Gungi was captured as part of the droids’ trading deal with the Trandoshans.

The third possibility is that there was someone else who wanted to get their hands on Gungi, but this answer may be revealed in a later episode or a different show altogether. There have been rumors about George Lucas wanting to create a Younglings spin-off, and if that comes to fruition, we may see more explanation given to Gungi’s stories then!

For now, we can rest assured that Gungi has been reunited with his family and is safe! Even if he doesn’t show up in a show of his own, I do hope we continue to see him in The Bad Batch or another Star Wars venture.
