[SPOILER] Dies the Most Poetic Death In The White Lotus S2 Finale

The finale of The White Lotus season 2 finally answered the questions raised in its premiere and revealed whose dead bodies washed up on the shore all those days back.

The superhit HBO series is a classic whodunit dramedy with a barrage of new characters and intermingling storylines filled with lies, betrayal, and unsolicited intimacy. The main characters include a host of affluent guests who come to the palatial hotel to spend their vacations along with a few questionable natives of the land.

We know from the premiere that Daphne is the only person confirmed to survive (Meghann Fahy), as she discovered the bodies in the sea.

Till the very last episode, we had no idea about the killer or the identity of the victims. Like a high-stakes game, the creators kept sprinkling clues here and there without revealing anything substantial. The fan theories kept piling up, and the adrenaline levels kept peaking.

Greg and Tanya

So, the killer is (drumrolls) Tanya McQuoid. But she is also revealed to be the dead body that floated up in front of Daphne. Now, that’s confusing, isn’t it? Let’s rewind a little.

In last week’s episode, Tanya was seen gallivanting around with a wealthy gay stranger, Quentin, after her husband, Greg, virtually abandoned her during the stay.

Amid all this, she came across a curious photo of two people. The eagle-eyed watchers instantly recognized the two people in the picture as young Quentin and Greg. Tanya realizes that Greg hired Quentin to kill her for her enormous life insurance.

Terrified for her life, Tanya takes out a gun and shoots her attacker, Quentin, and one other man. It explains the dead bodies, but how did Tanya die?

She pulls off a classic Tanya McQuoid right after murdering three men. In an attempt to get out of the yacht, her stiletto hits the railing, and she flips over. Tanya bangs her head onto the handrail and plummets to her death, falling into the sea.

In an interview with HBO, creator Mike White explains that Tanya’s death was imminent, and they have been thinking about it since the finale of season 1.

In season 1, Tanya told Greg,” I’ve had every kind of treatment over the years. Death is the last immersive experience I haven’t tried.” That’s when the creators thought of this poetic end for the iconic character.

Mike elaborates on why Tanya had to be her demise.

I just think her dying at the hands of someone else felt too tragic. It felt like she needed to give her best fight back and that she, in a way, had some kind of victory over whoever was conspiring to get rid of her. It just made me laugh to think that she would take out this cabal of killers and that after she had successfully done that, she just dies this derpy death. And it felt like, that’s just so Tanya.
