Sam Obisanya was stuck on his decision about leave Richmond and take up Edwin Akufo’s offer. The season finale put an end to fans’ anticipation and made it clear that Sam is here to stay for good.

In the episode, Sam tells his father that he can’t decide what to do, but then his father tells him to look for a sign from the universe. Sam does end up getting the ‘sign’ when he sees kids wearing Richmond jerseys playing football in a park, with one of them wearing his.

Disaster’s averted as Sam scores a goal that leads to a draw for the team, and by the end, he has made up his mind.

He declines Akufo’s offer and goes up to Ted and Rebecca, saying, “I wish I could say it was because of my feelings for you. But the truth is, I think I need to stop worrying about what others feel about me. I’m staying because it’s what’s best for me and my personal journey.”

One of the finale’s flash-forwards show him closing the deal on a property he’ll be turning into a Nigerian restaurant.

Even if not Sam, Richmond does lose two of its members. The first one being Keeley, as we learn that she has gotten an offer from Bantr, and they want to finance her new PR firm. Keeley tells a teary-eyed Rebecca that she’s leaving, so it’s pretty much a done deal.

The finale’s first flash-forward jumps five weeks ahead as Keeley packs up her office. Her future with Roy is uncertain as well, as she says she can’t go when he comes in with plane tickets for a trip.

Then there’s the big ‘betrayal’ everyone knew was coming – Nate severing all ties with Richmond AFC in the worst way possible. He fights with Ted, with no shred of remorse for outing Ted’s panic attacks to the press, cussing him, AND ripping the ‘Believe’ sign in two.

The very last flash-forward is of Nate at West Ham six months later. We see that Rupert has bought West Ham United, where Nate is the new head coach, leaving Richmond behind.

Some other characters who left were the team’s therapist Sharon and journalist Trent Crimm (who got fired for admitting that he gave up his source).

In an interview with Deadline, EP and showrunner Bill Lawrence said that both of these characters are far from done, “I can tell you both of them have significant roles next year.”

The writers are currently working on season 3, which will consist of 12 episodes. And if Jason Sudeikis really has made up his mind like he has mentioned plenty of times before, it might be the final season.

Ted Lasso season 3 does not have a release date yet, but it will premiere sometime in mid-2022.
