Why did Adebayo plant Peacemaker’s Diary in Episode 5?

Is it just me or is Peacemaker getting better with every episode? What with successfully locating the Butterflies’ food warehouse and killing a ton of Butterflies (including and especially, a freaking Butterfly-possessed-gorilla) Peacemaker Episode 5 was quite the team-building session.

Heck, it even got Peacemaker to acknowledge Economos by his actual name.

But celebrations can only last so long, and it’s those tiny moments of doubt that make you anticipate the next episode. For me, one of the most pressing questions was—why did Amanda Waller make her daughter Adebayo plant a (possibly forged) diary in Peacemaker’s house?

In Peacemaker Episode 5, Waller orders Adebayo to plant a forged copy of a diary belonging to Peacemaker in his house to either manipulate him, bug his house or make him the fall guy when the police investigate Project Butterfly.

Here I was thinking that Adebayo might be Peacemaker’s only true friend (I’ve lost count of how many times she’s told him he’s not a bad person). But that move came like a stab to the back.

Adebayo seems to be going by “mother knows best” but I intend on speculating more on what purpose could the forged diary serve:

Making Peacemaker the Fall Guy

Waller is stone-cold and knows how to use people like no other. So what’s to say that after Peacemaker completes Project Butterfly, she won’t make sure that he stays in jail till the end of his days?

Now it was earlier mentioned that the diary Adebayo planted could be a forged one. So it is possible that the diary may admit to crimes that Peacemaker has not committed, or at least willingly orchestrated. Perhaps, he is blamed for all the deaths caused by Project Butterfly.

Despite the team’s best efforts, Detective Song is hot on Peacemaker’s trail and as per the teaser for Episode 6, she’s already got her squad to investigate Peacemaker’s house. What will happen if she finds his diary? And more importantly, what will she find in the diary itself?

Gaslighting Peacemaker into Continuing ARGUS’ Mission

It’s no secret that Peacemaker is growing increasingly conflicted about his morals. Then there is his brother’s mysterious death that continues to haunt him. The show itself has teased that it may have been Peacemaker’s fault that his brother died. Whether this is true or not, it is possible that the forged diary has rewritten the events in a way to convince Peacemaker that he was the cause of his brother’s demise.

This guilt is one sure way of gaslighting Peacemaker into willingly submitting into other deadly missions that ARGUS sets out for him. For a “superhero” named Peacemaker, peace sure is a motivation. But guilt, even more so.

To Bug Peacemaker’s House

After the last Suicide Squad mission going extremely south, it makes sense why Waller may want to have her eyes and ears everywhere. (After all, a tracker in the brain can only do so much). So, there is a minuscule chance that the diary is also a bug.

Peacemaker

In any case, the diary is no good news and I’m just crossing my fingers for it to have zero explosive results. But who am I kidding? This is Peacemaker, a show that certainly loves violent dramatics.
