Diego Luna Explains Why He’s Happy About Andor Ending with Season 2

Star Wars: Andor is set five years before the events of Rogue One and was initially planned for five seasons, each instalment focusing on one year of the aforementioned period. But by 2022’s end, the five-season run dwindled from three to two since the original plan was deemed “physically impossible” by the showrunner.

Diego Luna, who plays the titular character in the Disney+ prequel, has expressed relief after news hit that the show will end after the season 2 finale. The actor, currently shooting the upcoming instalment in London, talked to Variety, explaining why he was happy about the show ending with second season.

Diego Luna as Cassian Andor

This is the last season for Andor. It is just a two-season show, which is really important for my mental health. But knowing this is the end, I want to enjoy it and get the best out of this experience.

The Star Wars actor first embedded himself in the role in 2016 with Rogue One and returned to do the spinoff series since he felt the character had more to him than just one film. The two-season show will focus on his story before the 2016 film and how he rose to be the brave agent who rebelled against the Empire.

The Star Wars franchise is quite demanding of its actors, and it is understandable if Luna wants to return to greener pastures in terms of flexibility. The actor also spoke about how theater has been his escape, where he eventually finds himself when he needs a break, and that’s where he’ll be after shooting has finished for Andor season 2.
