Will Ace Return To DWL In Heels?

This tale of Ace and Jack will be continued in season 2 (if there’s one.) Fingers crossed, I hope there’s another season because this shouldn’t be the ending for the two brothers, and there’s so much more to Ace beyond all his insecurities, fears, and issues.

In the season finale of Heels, we saw one of the best matches DWL had ever seen. But it sure did come at a cost. When Jack confessed to his wrongdoings to Ace in the middle of his fight, the two started brawling against each other.

Wild Bill lay there intoxicated with drugs and with no one else to save the day Crystal walked into the ring, suplexed Jack, defeated the Ace (who, this time, willingly took the role of a heel), and won the DWL championship.

But all was not forgiven. In the final moments, Ace gave Jack a begrudging look as he walked away from the ring while the entire crowd cheered and lauded Crystal.

So what will happen to Ace? Will he and Jack resolve their issues? Will Ace return to the DWL?

Ace’s future in the DWL would be uncertain in season 2 if there’s one. However, we will see how the brothers move from this fight and how Ace evolves and grows by introspecting and confronting his darker side.

Ace and Jack’s relationship has been pretty strained right from the first episode. In fact, in one of the scenes, we see a flashback, and Jack never treated him right, even when he was a kid. After their father killed himself, Ace was traumatized, and we saw it manifest in the form of fears, insecurities, the obsession with being the “star,” and so on.

Of course, Jack was no saint. He ruined Ace’s chance to get into the big leagues. Instigated the audience to hate him, throw jibes at him, and tarnished his reputation while justifying that it was all just character work.

When I see this relationship as an audience, there’re flaws evident on both ends, but as Crystal would say, Jack, being the bigger brother, could’ve been less of an a**hole. But who can change what’s done?

If there’s some sort of silver lining to this all, it looks like Ace has come to accept himself as a heel. It is the first step towards becoming more aware of his insecurities and even accepting them. He didn’t seem bothered by Crystal winning or the crowd jeering at him.

So that’s a sign of growth, and perhaps we’ll see more of that in season. As for his return in season 2, I think there are two ways that it can go.

In the first scenario, Ace feels so much anger and resentment towards his brother, but he is mature enough to return to the league and do his job since he already doesn’t mind being the heel.

Brothers in the Ring

There will still be issues between them, but now Ace wouldn’t let that get in his way in the ring. He might even give Jack the silent treatment, and this time, it would take a lot from Jack to fix it all. Jack would have to truly accept his own wrongdoings even to offer an honest and sincere apology, which wouldn’t make it alright, but that might be a start to something.

In the second scenario, Ace might leave DWL at least temporarily. He might try going to other leagues, or he might just stop wrestling for a while. After everything that has happened, he might need some time for himself. In the state that he is in, it’s relatively easy to get in the loop of self-loathing and problems that he has already faced in season 1.

However, this time it’s different. This time it’s almost like a betrayal, and he needs to be more kind to himself to work his way through everything. In this case, too, Jack would try and fix things because, at the end of the day, that’s what his intentions are, even if his ways were absolutely wrong. Maybe we might find some truce then, and Ace would return to the DWL, or this time Jack would let him evolve professionally too, and let him go to the big leagues.

The creator of this slow-burn drama, Michael Waldron, spoke to TVLine about how conversations for season 2 are ongoing and gave us a hint at what might happen to Ace and Jack.

He also mentioned, “If [the DWL is going to] succeed, you’re going to have to see Jack start to do the hardest thing for him, which is cede a little bit of control. Part of that means listening to other wrestlers like Rooster [and] Diego and perhaps giving those guys the push that they might deserve.”

Well, however it unfolds, I’m just waiting to listen to the news, which reads, “Heels green-lit for a season 2!” Now that I’ve completed this article, I’m going back to keeping my fingers crossed.
