With the HBO Max reboot of Sex and the City, And Just Like That coming close to the finale of the first season, there are some questions left unanswered. Here’s the most important one out of them: Where is Aidan Shaw and when will we see him on And Just Like That?
Let me refresh your memory. Aidan Shaw is the sexy, denim-dressed, turquoise-ringed furniture maker, better known as Carrie’s fiancé and the complete anti-thesis to the problematic Mr Big.
We last saw Aidan in Sex and the City 2, where he shared a forbidden yet passionate kiss with Carrie in Abu Dhabi. Now that Big is gone in the revival, there are chances of Carrie and Aidan rekindling their relationship.
If you ask me, Aidan is any day more preferable than Mr Big and we deserve the Aidan reprisal we were promised in April 2021. By the way, it was also when John Corbett confirmed being a part of the show.
As of writing this article, Aidan Shaw has not made an appearance in And Just Like That and there isn’t any official confirmation by HBO Max about his appearance. So, if the show is renewed for a second season, Aidan might make an appearance there.
Will Aidan return to And Just Like That…?
As of now, we have not seen Aidan in the Sex and the City reboot, which, to be honest, is disappointing. There’s anyway not much to look forward to in this show, since it banks on nostalgia to a great extent.
I was at least expecting an Aidan Shaw come-back. However, it is not time to give up yet. Let me remind you, in April 2021, when John Corbett was asked about his involvement in the reboot, he confirmed being a part of it.
Corbett told Page Six, “I am going to do the show.” He even said that he “might be in quite a few episodes” of the reboot.
HBO Max, however, did not confirm the rumors or deny it. They maintained their silence in the matter and we’re almost towards the end of the show with no sign of Aidan Shaw. No promo hints at his come-back or a special appearance.
So, as far as season one of And Just Like That is confirmed, we’re nine episodes into it. Unless Aidan makes a dramatic entry in the finale (which is not likely considering how the story is proceeding), I don’t think we will see him anytime soon.
Signs that Indicate Aidan Might Return to And Just Like That…
Now that we are done discussing official statements and confirmations, let us take a look at how a potential return of Aidan might fit into the storyline of AJLT, as of now.
First of all, Carrie is no longer with Mr Big in the series, because Big unexpectedly died in the series premiere. So, naturally SATC fans have been anticipating the return of Aidan Shaw, Carrie’s former fiancé and love of her life.
Now that Big is out of the picture (most probably), Aidan and Carrie have the perfect opportunity to rekindle their relationship. As I mentioned earlier, they even shared a forbidden kiss when they met in Abu Dhabi.
Mind you, Carrie was married and so was Aidan. Yet, they went on a candlelit dinner and ended up kissing each other. The spark is clearly not gone. Later, in season 6 of the series, Carrie even bumped into Aidan holding a baby.
So all things considered, a Carrie-Aidan reunion is not out of place for the storyline of AJLT as of now. This brings me to my second point, involving Miranda’s husband Steve and that he still owns the bar he set up with Aidan.
So, if anybody might know about the whereabouts of Aidan, it may be Steve considering they still own a bar together. However, we are nine episodes down and there is no sign of Aidan as of now.
I would still say there is still hope of Aidan returning, if at all the series is renewed for subsequent seasons. But unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a chance of Aidan returning in season one of the revival.
In fact, there are no paparazzi shots or behind the scenes pictures of Corbett shooting in New York, where the cast has been filming the reboot last year. It is still possible that the makers managed to slip him in, but we generally do get offscreen hints.
Will Aidan return in Season 2?
Now that there is little hope of Aidan appearing in season 1, we can only hope to see him in season 2, if the show is renewed.
Given the recent sexual assault charges on actor Chris Noth (who played Mr Big in the series) and no official confirmation about the show being renewed, season 2 is not exactly confirmed.
As of now, we just have to wait and see if And Just Like That gets another season. If it does, there is still hope of Aidan making a comeback and Carrie reuniting with the long lost love of her life.

And Just Like That… is an upcoming American comedy-drama television series. It serves as a 10-part reboot of Sex and the City and is set to premiere on HBO Max in late 2021.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon reprise their roles as Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda. Newly joining the series will be Nicole Ari Parker, Sara Ramirez, Sarita Choudhury and Karen Pittman.
A release date has not yet been announced.
