Guillermo Is A Vampire Hunter Now! Will He Become A Vampire Too?

In the first season of What We Do In The Shadows, Guillermo (Harvey Guillen) was introduced to us as Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak)’s familiar. It was his dream to become a vampire. The reason why he worked so hard to gain Nandor’s attention and appreciation is because he wanted to be turned and join them.

But things don’t always turn out the way they should, does it? Things got complicated for Guillermo, when he discovered that he comes from a family of vampire hunters. In other words, he is destined to be just the opposite of what he wanted to be.

So what does this mean for his future decisions? From what the situation is as of Season 2, it is a little difficult for Guillermo to still want to become a vampire like he initially wished. His hunter instincts would definitely come in his way.

Besides, there are numerous possibilities than can be explored if he continues as a vampire hunter. It puts a lot of things in question and personally I would love to watch that rather than him becoming a vampire, because Guillermo’s identity crisis is one of the best tracks of this otherwise mediocre show.

Guillermo is unlikely to become a vampire now as discovering his family origins have complicated things alot. Since he is a hunter now, his instincts would prevent him from becoming one. But again, we cannot completely discard the possibility yet.

Will Guillermo Ever Become A Vampire?

As of Season 2, Guillermo is still human. In the end of Season 1, it is revealed that he is a descendant of the Van Helsing family. Van Helsing is the man who killed Dracula, one of the deadliest vampires in history.

His origins mess up his perspective of life badly because he is legit friends with vampires. Imagine being thrown into a situation where you are meant to be a complete opposite of what you intend to be. It is hard for sure.

My guess is that considering Guillermo’s ancestry and interests as of Season 2, he might not end up turning into a vampire as per his initial plans. He began this journey wanting to become one but seems like his skills are meant for another job.

I must say that the writers are very skilfully throwing their hints at us both for and against this statement. It is basically a will he-won’t he situation. Some actions of Guillermo make you feel like he can never betray his friends because of instincts he never chose for himself.

On the other hand, some actions make you question his loyalty as a familiar to Nandor and stresses on his destiny of ending up as a vampire slayer.

Will Guillermo Betray His Vampire Friends?

If Guillermo becomes a fulltime vampire slayer, then it is obvious that he will have instincts to actually kill his friends, who are vampires. Now that is a problem and Guillermo eventually will have to learn to be selective in his approach. If he wants to remain friends with vampires, that is.

I am saying this also in reference to the two vampire slaying incidents that we come across in Season 1. At that point, we all thought it was an accident. But if one is meant to be a hunter, these are in born traits and instincts that you cannot ignore.

If you’ve watched shows like The Vampire Diaries or Buffy The Vampire Slayer, you will know what I mean. Fantasy shows like these have build up a stereotypical picture of a vampire slayer and the makers of What We Do In The Shadows are following a similar path.

Basically, Guillermo’s instincts are sure to drive him towards his hunting capabilities. But that is not the only reason why he is no longer likely to become vampire. There are more.

Guillermo, Laszlo and Nandor

Firstly, I think the way Guillermo’s vampire friends treat him can also contribute to why he might not end up being one of them. I mean, they hardly knew anything about Guillermo and wanted to rub it on his face how happy they are without him when he left to live with his mother.

Secondly, it is difficult to ignore the fact that Guillermo saved vampire hunters whose aim in life is to trace down OG vampires like Nandor, Nadjo and Lazlo. Saving hunters obviously spell trouble of Guillermo’s vampire friends. Is that not betrayal?

In fact, even Nandor is beginning to suspect him. There is very much a fair chance that Guillermo embraces his hunting nature and leave his friends. However I don’t think he would wish anything bad for them. Despite being demeaned again and again, he did his bit to save their lives after all.

Having said all that, there is also a possibility to explore the idea of him being a vampire hunter and a vampire at the same time because that is what we do in the shadows! Considering how Guillermo slayed vampires to save his friends, he can be selective in his hunting spree, isn’t it?

Maybe he could kill the bad ones and let the good ones be and not end up harming his friends.

How Many Vampires Did Guillermo Kill?

Guillermo killed several vampires in Season 2, but it was for the sole intention of saving his friends, who are also vampires. In Season 1, before he found out his family origins, he is seen slaying two vampires.

A bit of a dilemma, isn’t it? If we notice his actions closely, there are reasons to think that he will no longer side with his friends. In the Season 2 finale, he left after being constantly mistreated by his vampire buddies.

Also, he might not have killed his friends and only killed other vampires to save his friends, but the bloodthirsty nature can be seen clearly in his actions. He might even end up harming one of his friends accidentally because instincts!

There is a high chance that Guillermo will draw the attention of the Vampiric Council as well, which again will have important implications. In fact, even Nandor began to slightly doubt his loyalty as a familiar. So no matter how weird it sounds, I would guess that the number of kills in Guillermo’s hands will increase.
