Will MODOK Get His Family Back? Can MODOK Have It All?

MODOK season 1 ended with a cliffhanger where MODOK chose his ambition of world domination over his family. But as the finale ends with him accomplishing everything he aspired, he wants to get his family back.

We see our evil yet warm protagonist struggle with two significant aspects of his life throughout the show – his family and his ambition. MODOK first loses his company to GRUMBL that turns out to be Hexus, a parasite organization. To make things worse, his bond with his family is strained, and his wife files for a divorce.

In the end, we see this journey end with MODOK torturing Anomaly, who was his future self, to look through the countless possibilities and see if there’s any timeline where he can have it all – conquest over the world and his family. So can MODOK get his family back, and can he have everything?

If there’s a season 2 of MODOK, we know his family will be in it since they played a crucial part in his character arc. We also know that he will set out to save them and get them back, but will he have it all? I guess only time will tell.

1. How is MODOK different in comics and can he have it all in the latest Hulu series?

MODOK has appeared in numerous comics, wreaking havoc in the world, trying to conquer it and failing at it multiple times. He’s also appeared in various animated series on television going against the likes of Iron Man, Hulk, Vision and so many other characters. Essentially, he’s always been the evil genius who turned into a big bad supervillain, that we all have come to hate!

However, the latest Hulu series brings a different shade to this character. He has a wife and two kids. This narrative makes him a little more grey than just being completely dark. It explores his relationship with them and how he tries hard to be a good husband and an even better father.

When you sum it all up, it adds an additional facet making the character more human. He’s not just an outright mad evil genius who wants to conquer the world, but someone who also wants his family. I know it’s quite convoluted but that’s what makes it more engaging.

As a viewer you’re not straight up hating the villain right from the beginning. You see the ups and downs in his story and many time end up rooting for him.

So towards the end I know we all want him to choose his family yet fulfill his dream of world domination, but can he really have it all?

Well, we don’t know but I have a theory. It’s a classic trope we see in different time travel-based films and shows.

2. Theory Of Infinite Loop

What could happen is when MODOK sets out to save his family, he might encounter different scenarios that will each have a different kind of impact on him. And during these scenarios and circumstances, his mind would slowly change. They might either indicate that his family truly can’t be saved, or even if they are, he might not be able to conquer the world.

Infinite Loop

These would slowly turn him into Anomaly as he revisits the past to convince MODOK to let go of his family. He would then go on to persuade MODOK (the past) to use the emptiness, the anger, and sadness to conquer the world. This would form a limbo that MODOK just can’t get out of.

Alternatively, this time, despite Anomaly trying to convince him, he would choose his family, thus breaking out of the loop of eternity.

As much as I want the ending to be intense and twisted, it’d be interesting to see what the writers have to offer in Season 2 (if there’s one!) All you guys and I can do is wait for it and see how everything unfolds.
