At the end of Stranger Things, season 4, part 1, Nancy Wheeler becomes prey to Vecna as he takes over her mind and shows how Barbara Holland died in season 1. It was when she was at Steve’s house, and Barb was waiting by the pool.
Little did anyone know that she’d be pulled by the Demogorgon into the Upside Down, where the same creature would kill her. As it turns out, Nancy is still traumatized by the incident even though she appears to be normal.
In fact, she even feels guilty about it. Vecna uses this weakness and exploits it to paralyze her, just as she is about to leave Upside Down along with the others. So, will Nancy Wheeler die in the Stranger Things season 4 finale?
Nancy survives will somehow survive the attack by Vecna. We see Wheeler in the Stranger Things volume 2 teaser, and she seems fine. The character will most likely be alive at the end of season 4 because the show is slated to end only in season 5.
Throughout season 4, volume 1, Nancy has been one of the few characters who is sorted, besides her relationship with Jonathan and her unresolved feelings towards Steve. She doesn’t seem to have any traumatic past that Vecna could exploit to kill her.
However, in the final moments of season 4, episode 7, we see that she is carrying emotional baggage from the first season. It could be assumed that she blames herself for leaving Barbara alone, and that’s precisely what Vecna uses against her.
However, despite all this, Nancy will survive. Firstly, everyone now knows how to break Vecna’s spell and get him out of your head by playing the person’s favorite song. So, there is a good chance that Steven or someone else will know Wheeler’s favorite song, and she’d snap out.
Even if there isn’t a second, the characters will find some way. This is because of the second reason. Stranger Things season 4, volume 2 teaser showcases her along with Robin and Steve with guns in their hands. This means she’s made it alive for the time being, and Vecna would have to try harder the next time.
Now, the question is whether Nancy will die in the season finale. I think it is improbable for such an important character to be killed at this time. Stranger Things season 5 has been confirmed as the show’s final season, so maybe significant character deaths will be reserved for that.
Moreover, Steve and Nancy’s romance is just budding, and we haven’t reached that breaking point where the impact of Nancy or Steve dying will be at the highest level. So, we probably just have to wait for season 5 for either of those characters to die.
