Wednesday’s Creators Reveal How Many Seasons Are Already Planned

I can’t get enough of Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday! The character was already iconic in itself, with Lisa Loring and Christina Ricci’s renditions being applauded for decades. Now, Ortega brings a new flavor to the character we know and love, immortalizing Wednesday for a new generation of fans.

Besides this, the Netflix show also creates a new universe for its viewers to enjoy, especially those who love teen supernatural drama. With the show’s ending being mildly open-ended, fans are wondering if there will be more seasons.

Here’s what the co-creators have to say.

Co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar stated that they may create three to four seasons of Wednesday if Netflix decides to renew it. There is a strong possibility that Netflix may approve the renewals because of Wednesday’s high viewership ratings.

Along with Netflix’s vested interests, the co-creators are definitely enthusiastic about more seasons for the show. Let’s get into more details, shall we?

Will Wednesday have a Season 2? When will it release?

As of now, Wednesday has not been renewed for Season 2, but there is a strong possibility that Netflix will renew it. The show has broken the record of highest viewership on Netflix set by fan-favorite Stranger Things. Moreover, critics have raved about Jenna Ortega’s performance as the titular character as well.

Since Wednesday was released just a week ago, it’s too early for Netflix to make a decision and announce it. While the show has enjoyed massive success in its initial days, the streamer will still keep tabs on longevity data and criticism on other fronts.

We can expect that Netflix may make the renewal/cancelation announcement by late December or early January.

Irrespective of that, the creative minds behind the project are definitely geared toward keeping Wednesday on our screens for a long time. In conversation with Variety, co-creators Gough and Millar spoke about their future plans for the show, including the fact that they envisioned it being three to four seasons long and even teased the return of the good boy gone rogue, Tyler.

The cast has also expressed an interest in coming back and adding tales to their characters’ adventures. In particular, Fred Armisen speaks about how fans certainly are curious about what will happen next, stating to E! News, “I thought that’s good writing, to keep people wanting more.”

As for when we can expect Wednesday to come with Season 2, once Netflix renews, it might take a year for filming and post-production. We can expect the next season sometime in late 2023. Stay tuned!
