Stranger Things has always had relationships at its core right from the beginning. Besides the genre-bending narrative, the horror/sci-fi series is also famous for the high-school teenage-drama relationships, which makes us all nostalgic.
Amongst the numerous relationships, one of the most popular ones was that of Steve and Nancy. Although the two split after season 1, in season 4, the two have evident chemistry.
After Jonathan moved to California, the distance between him and Nancy led to them drifting apart. In fact, Jonathan doesn’t want to move to the same college as Nancy, and Nancy is miffed that he didn’t fly to Hawkins to see her.
The two also seem to accept that they have moved apart. So, does this mean Steve and Nancy might get back together in Stranger Things?
Steve and Nancy might get back together in Stranger Things season 5, but not in season 4. Although the two haven’t confessed anything, it is evident they have feelings for each other.
In Stranger Things season 4, the gang is split into two parts. While Jonathan is with Mike, Will, and Argyle in California trying to rescue Eleven, Nancyis with Steve, Robin, Eddie, Max, Lucas, and Dustin in Hawkins trying to maneuver the Upside Down.
So Steve and Nancy discover about Vecna, hunt for the gates, try to clear Eddie’s name, and go through the mission together. There are numerous hints that clearly showcase how the two still have feelings for each other.
Steve is trying to find the perfect girl, and Nancy is still coming to terms with her emotional distance from Jonathan. When Robin and Nancy bump into each other, the former makes it abundantly clear that she and Steve are platonic friends on multiple occasions.
In an incident where Nancy wants to follow Victor Creel’s lead, Steve instantly offers to help. Later, Dustin asks why he literally and figuratively threw himself at her. In another instance, when Steve decides to go to the bottom of the lake to find the Upside Down gate, he removes his shirt, and Nancy is caught gawking at him.
When Steve reaches the bottom and gets pulled into the Upside Down, he’s attacked by the bats. Nancy is the first to jump in for him, and Eddie later mentions it to our lover boy.
The two even have a profound moment of silence as she ties a bandage around him, and by now, it is crystal clear that the two still have some feelings left for each other. However, I don’t think there’ll be enough time for them to act on it.
Stranger Things season 4 part 2 consists of 2 episodes involving fighting Vecna, Hopper escaping from Russia, El gaining her powers, and a lot more. So, there would hardly be any time for them to get back together.
Perhaps in Stranger Things season 5, the two might reunite as a couple. Stranger Things season 4 part 2 releases on July 1 on Netflix.
