Will The Mandalorian S3 Reveal a Connection to the Jedi?

Ever since the second season of The Mandalorian ended in December 2020, the internet has come up with some wild theories about what might happen in the third season. The Mandalorian’s connection with the Jedis and the main universe of Star Wars is an important part of these theories. With season three already in pre-production, we decided to look at the most plausible ones.

Star Wars fans cheered when Ahsoka Tano appeared in the second season of The Mandalorian. She is a fan-favorite and the first female Jedi in the Star Wars canon. First introduced in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, she made her first live-action appearance in the Disney+ show and revealed a lot about the universe.

She fights Morgan Elsbeth aka The Magistrate and defeats her, and asks her the location of her master Grand Admiral Thrawn. This is a reference to Star Wars Rebels, where Thrawn was introduced as a primary antagonist- a military commander who took control of the forces of the Galactic Empire five years after the Return of the Jedi.

Thrawn’s mention in The Mandalorian only means that he will play an important part in the host of Star Wars spin-offs coming up on Disney+. One can predict that he will assume a Thanos-like position in the Disney+ universe and bring together the shows under a joint villain.

However, some on the internet believe Thrawn might not be The Mandalorian’s only connection to the Jedis. The protagonist of Star Wars Rebels was Ezra Bridger, a teenaged Jedi-in-training, who, according to the wildest theories on the internet, might be Din’s biological brother. It is unclear at what age Din was adopted by the Mandalorian society. His parents might have survived and have gone on to have a life and have a child later.

The timelines match- Ezra was born nearly twenty years after the events of A New Hope.  It might seem like quite a stretch but the theory does bring Ezra Bridger back to the live-action universe and develops the theme of family- something that has been an important aspect of The Mandalorian.

What do you think? Is bringing back Ezra too far-fetched?
