Ted Lasso: Jamie Tartt Drops A Three-Word Bombshell On Keeley

No Ted Lasso… please don’t do a Roy-Keeley-Jamie love triangle!

While many have lauded the show for not dwelling on the toxic ploy of love triangles, Season 2’s Episode 10 may have hinted at both, feelings and trouble, brewing between Jamie, Roy, and Keeley.

Roy made light of Keeley’s trepidations around deaths and funerals instead of being sincere with her. This put her in quite the mood. At the same time, Jamie was seen tiptoeing around his former girlfriend, stealing glances and summoning up the courage to say three very important words.

After Rebecca’s dad’s funeral, Jamie finally walks up to Keeley and tells her,

I know that you’re with Roy and that you’re happy […] I didn’t just come back to Richmond to get away from my dad, I also came back ‘cause of you. I finally think I’m becoming the best version of myself, the kind of man you always knew I could be. And I know this is a mad, shitty thing to do… I love you, Keeley.

Whoa, there!

To make things worse, Roy comes up to Keeley less than a moment later and apologizes for the jokes, explaining why he’s uncomfortable talking about death. And of course, he ends it with another ‘I love you, Keeley.’

If we had to award someone with the largest character growth, it would be Jamie. So, I would refrain from judging his intentions too quickly.

After all, his position is understandable: He has let go of the ego and abuse of power used earlier to hide his insecurities. In doing so, he’s allowed himself to be the butt of many jokes and taunts — a transition I’m sure is not easy, but he must go through.

Jamie has to deal with his abusive father now more than ever, and with feeling like he’s been pushed in a corner where he has no one to confide in, he thinks of the one person who’s always been there for him: Keeley.

Like any other couple, Keeley and Roy themselves have had up and downs, but they do find healthy solutions in the end. The question remains — Will Jamie’s declaration of love cause a strain in their relationship?

One major difference is that this time around, Keeley, who is usually unfazed by Jamie, looked very affected by his words.

I’ve seen Keeley be honest, empathetic, and entirely capable of handling such a situation, even if it does result in some tears. I’m at the edge of my seat to see what happens next.
