Negative Reviews May Make Jurassic World Say Goodbye to Sequels

Jurassic World Dominion opens up in theatres this weekend and serves as the sixth installation to the once-iconic Jurassic Park franchise. Broken from their cages, dinosaurs now live among us, and the film inquires into the ethics of letting such a thing happen.

Don’t worry, I won’t give you any spoilers, but instead, let’s get into that one big question that fans always have for major franchises: Will there be a sequel or not? Is Jurassic World 4 in the works?

There will be no Jurassic World 4. Jurassic World Dominion is the conclusion to both, the Jurassic Park trilogy and the Jurassic World trilogy. However, the franchise may decide to start a whole new series in the future.

Okay, so what does this exactly mean? Let’s break it down.

In the Jurassic Park franchise, Dominion is one of their most ambitious projects, considering the actors brought on board, the dinosaurs depicted, and even the ecological themes being tackled.

The reason the scale was this massive is that Dominion was always meant to serve as a definite end to both the trilogies. As you may notice, this is the first time that Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill appear together in a Jurassic movie since the first one in 1993.

Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard were also adamant about how this was to be the last film in their trilogy.

In short, there were never any plans for a Jurassic World 4, as stated by Frank Marshall to Slash Films.

Will there be more Jurassic franchise films?

Frank Marshall’s statement just means it’s the end of the two existing trilogies. In the same interview, he did say that they were open to making more Jurassic films, or even a brand-new trilogy.

But it doesn’t seem like that will happen in the near future. Jurassic World Dominion has not fared well at all when it comes to critics’ reviews, who have called it lengthy, redundant, and a storyline that has run well past its course.

While I did enjoy some of the thrills of Dominion (what with multiple gory dinosaurs chasing scenes that were nicely done), the plot itself was dull and too long. It may be right to say that six Jurassic films is where you should call it quits.

Still, it is the premier weekend and the box office numbers are not in yet. If the movie is a hit in theatres, despite the negative reviews, there is some hope for another Jurassic film some years down the line.

If the franchise does return with another movie, here’s my petition to have Kayla Watts lead it.

About Jurassic World: Dominion

Jurassic World: Dominion is an upcoming American science fiction adventure film directed by Colin Trevorrow. It is a sequel to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), the sixth film in the Jurassic Park franchise and the third in the Jurassic World trilogy.

The movie stars an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, Omar Sy, Jake Johnson, BD Wong and many more.

Dominion will take place four years after the events of Fallen Kingdom and will follow the two sets of characters from Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, with their plotlines running parallel to each other until they ultimately converge.
