Wonder Woman 3: What We Know About It

Ever since it was released on Christmas, Wonder Woman 1984 has been a point of contention in the eyes of the cinema-going audience. The film has deeply divided the public, with one group saying that it is a superhero movie that inspires and entertains while the other group claims that it is nothing short of garbage.

It turns out that even with the negative comments, Wonder Woman 1984 is a commercial success. It soared as the highest-grossing opening weekender in the pandemic market in the US and was even more successful internationally.

The film’s box office collection has impelled Warner Bros. to fast track the third film in the series. If you have enjoyed Wonder Woman 1984 and cannot wait for the next installment, or if you absolutely hated the movie and are waiting for the series to redeem itself, here is all that we know about the third movie—

1.Who’s Returning?

If we are being very honest, the Wonder Woman movies would not be so popular had the superhero not been perfectly cast. Gal Gadot is the biggest star of the series and one half of the golden duo behind the films. She will suit up, once more, as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in the third installment of the series.

Patty Jenkins, director of the first two films and second half of the duo, is also returning for the third film. She will also serve as a writer of the final movie.

Kristen Wiig as Cheetah in the film

When asked about who might be returning in Wonder Woman’s next adventure, Jenkins mentioned that Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah might make a comeback. In a recent interview with Den of Geek, the director said, “I have my reasons for making it ambiguous, and I think it’s not clear what her point of view [is] on everything that happened.” She further went on to reveal, “The truth is there may or may not be more to come [for Barbara].”

Fingers crossed for more Kristen Wiig in the next movie!

2.What it Might be About?

Patty Jenkins has stated that the third Wonder Woman film will be set in the present times as she is not interested in making another period piece. This is bad news for all the characters from Diana’s past (bye-bye Steve Trevor). While she herself might be immortal, most of the people in her life are not so. This means that Wonder Woman 3 will have completely new characters.

Lynda Carter appeared as Asteria in the post-credit scene of Wonder Woman 1984. Her legendary story was teased slightly during the movie and it is possible that she will play a significant role in the third film. We saw her save a baby from definite death but she is never mentioned in the present-day movies.

It is rumored that the third film will somehow bring the current virus into its storyline.

Hopefully, Jenkins finds a novel way to tell a story about the pandemic since most pandemic-centered stories have tanked miserably this year.

3. When’s it Going to Come Out?

Production for the third film has already started! With the fast-tracking of the process, we can expect the film to land sometime in 2021, possibly in the latter half of the year.

Patty Jenkins had said that she would only return to the franchise if the third film had a theatrical release. Since her return has been confirmed, it can be said that the new film will release only in theatres and not on streaming platforms.

4.Will it End with Wonder Woman 3?

Wonder Woman 3 will be the conclusion of the solo Wonder Woman films but it will not mean the end of the franchise. The writing team behind the films have confirmed that a spin-off about the Amazonians is in the pipeline.

Wonder Woman 3: All We Know

According to an early plan for the movie, the story will revolve around Themiscyra after Diana leaves with Steve Trevor. It will share the 1984 timeline and will connect to the events of the second Wonder Woman movie.

It has also been reported that Patty Jenkins will not direct the spin-off but will be involved with it as a producer.

What are your thoughts about the developments? Would you like to see Kristen Wiig come back in Wonder Woman 3? Will you watch the Amazon spin-off?
