Yellowjackets Finale Ending Explained and Season 2 Speculation

Taissa’s wife comes home to a shocking discovery – a shrine in a hidden part of the basement that included a voodoo doll, a photo of their son, and the decapitated head of their missing dog. This indicates that Taissa is not only sleepwalking again but also engaging in some kind of ritual from her time in the woods and its very likely that this alternate persona of hers is the one that her son refers to as ‘the bad one.’

Right when Natalie is about to take her own life, her house is broken into and she’s kidnapped by what seem like a group of cult members bearing the motif we’ve seen throughout the season. The cult leader is most likely Lottie – giving us a sixth Yellowjackets survivor to root for in the next season. Could there be more survivors? The showrunners have claimed its very likely.

Let’s also look into some open ends that will be tied up in Season 2.

Is Misty actually going to go public with what happened? While there was a strong indication that she is either going public or simply going to jail, (for having kidnapped and held Jessica captive and then released her) she actually drugs Jessica again by injecting an unknown substance into her cigarettes. Does Jessica live to tell the tale?

How many official survivors were there? If Lottie is still alive, then how does Suzie not know who she is when she leaves Nat a voicemail to tell her she’s being followed, considering how infamous the Yellowjackets are even in 2021.

Does Shauna give birth in the woods? What happens to that baby? Shauna’s current daughter is a teenager, making her too young to be the one she was pregnant with during their time in the woods. Does Javi die during the Doomcoming?

Cannibalism has been strongly implied throughout the season. When Jackie dies due to exposure, does Lottie convince the group to eat her? It is unlikely she was their first victim, especially considering they probably have leftovers from the bear that Lottie killed just the previous day. However, with the first snow, finding game will be twice as hard and the group may have to resort to the worst option after all.

Lastly, Was Travis’ death actually a suicide or was he killed by Lottie’s cult members? Find out in Season 2!

Yellowjackets Season 1 Finale Recap

With Misty’s expertise, the group is able to dispose of Adam’s corpse and destroy all evidence of his murder. Nat is the only one who keeps asking questions since she can’t figure out how Adam could be involved in Travis’ death. Shauna suggests that maybe his death really was a suicide. They go home to clean up and attend their high school reunion and Shauna tells Jeff that they got rid of Adam’s body.

In 1996, the girls wake up outside the cabin in the aftermath of the ‘Doomcoming.’ Travis rushes back into the woods to look for his brother and Nat goes with him despite his efforts to push her away. He admits he didn’t want to sleep with Jackie and tells Nat he loves her. A bear emerges from the woods and Lottie kills it, finally giving the group sustenance after a long dry spell. The group is enamored with Lottie’s unexplainable abilities.

They shun Jackie when she confronts them about what happened last night. Jackie lashes out at Shauna and tells her she knew that she was sleeping with Jeff and is pregnant with his child. When Jackie refuses to participate in giving thanks before their meal, she gets further alienated from the group. She ends up sleeping outside. The next day, Shauna jolts awake and rushes out when she sees snow outside the window and breaks down at the sight of Jackie, frozen to death.
