In the first episode of Season 2 of Yellowjackets, the main focus is on linking the previous season’s events while introducing several new characters from the past.
However, the script seems a little draggy, with some storylines feeling out of place and disjointed. In contrast to the fast-paced narrative of the first season, this episode feels sluggish.
However, the ending is emotionally surcharged, and several conflicts are created to be explored in the episodes to come.
As time passes in the forest, an increasing sense of uncertainty pervades everyone. With Shauna’s unusual behavior and everyone fearing for their health, things seem spiraling out of control.
She is still grappling with the trauma of Jackie’s death, and we see her talking to her lifeless body. Shauna accidentally pushes Jackie’s body in anger and despair, causing her frozen ear to come off. She keeps this to herself, unsure of what to do next.
Elsewhere, Misty is facing several challenges at the moment. She has been instructed to bring water in the cold and avoid any cooking due to a mushroom mishap. This has caused her to feel isolated and alienated from the group.
Also, Misty is upset that Coach Scott did not disclose his sexuality to her. All of these issues are taking a toll on her mental state.
Switching back to the present, we find Misty desperately looking for Natalie. She pressures the lodge receptionist into revealing that Natalie was taken away by someone, but he has no further information.
Misty goes to Natalie’s room and discovers evidence of a break-in. She also finds a CCTV camera outside Natalie’s room, hoping to provide clues about what happened to her.
Misty is determined to find out whether Natalie left on her own or was abducted.
Misty is the kind of person who becomes obsessed with a subject and will stop at nothing to uncover the truth. She is also a local detective and learns about the discussion on Adam Martin’s disappearance and death through a forum.
One of the detectives on the forum concludes that Adam had a girlfriend based on his recent purchases and dining habits. Misty is horrified by this discovery but realizes she cannot share this information with Shauna.
Taissa’s sleepwalking issues have worsened, causing her to unknowingly bite Vanessa’s lip while kissing her in her sleep. Vanessa decides to stay by Taissa’s side after Taissa confesses her love for her.
Taissa’s estranged wife threatens to go to the media unless Taissa resigns and addresses some unknown trauma. Taissa is confused by the accusations but is urged to check the basement, where she finds creepy symbols and dolls. This makes her question her involvement in a possible cult.
It is evident that Taissa is dealing with unresolved trauma that could harm her position as a politician in the future.
Elsewhere, Natalie breaks free from her captivity and escapes the cabin. She is determined to uncover the truth about the group responsible for holding her hostage.
While walking through the forest, she spots her abductor, Lottie Mathews. Natalie confronts Lottie and demands to know what her next move is. Lottie informs her that she has a message from Travis, and this makes things very interesting.
She wants to know if Travis killed himself or was, he murdered, but Lottie proves to be a tough nut to crack.
Natalie soon learns that Lottie is a cult leader with a devoted following. Lottie has complete control over her followers and will likely significantly influence what happens next.
Shauna and Jeff decide to burn all of Adam Martin’s belongings, including his paintings, on their grill to erase any evidence of his connection to Shauna.
This puts Shauna in a difficult position, but she knows she has to act cautiously to avoid going to jail. Their daughter inadvertently discovers a piece of Adam’s driving license that didn’t burn, and there is a chance that she might go to the police despite feeling terrible about the situation.
Meanwhile, in the cabin in 1996-1997, Shauna is unsure what to do with the ear. It has defrosted, and she feels uneasy about keeping a part of Jackie with her. Despite her doubts, Shauna ultimately eats the piece of the ear, which causes us to almost throw up on our TV screens. Sigh!
