‘Yes Day’ Premieres: Find out Where to Watch and What It’s About

Jennifer Garner’s new movie Yes Day is out and available for streaming on Netflix. The movie, which boasts a wonderful cast with the actress serving as one of the producers, came out yesterday to mixed reviews. It follows a family of five with the parents deciding to give their kids a “yes day” where the parents cannot say no to any of their demands.

Garner plays the role of Allison Torres, who is married to Carlos Torres (Edgar Ramirez) with three kids, Katie, Nando, and Ellie, played by child actors Jenna Ortega, Julian Lerner, and Everly Carganilla, respectively.

The Torres parents, who are constantly worried about their kids, resort to saying no to them to keep them protected from harm. However, after a parent-teacher conference during which the teacher reveals that the kids see their mother as a controlling authoritarian, Allison and Carlos start questioning their parenting methods.

The movie, an adaptation of a children’s book of the same name by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, was directed by Miguel Arteta. The extended cast includes June Diane Raphael, Nat Faxon, Fortune Feimster, Molly Sims, and R&B musician H.E.R. appearing in a guest role playing herself.

The movie was given an average rating of 5.3 out of 10 by Rotten Tomatoes, whose critic consensus reads, “Yes Day fails to take full advantage of its wish-fulfillment promise, aiming for family fun but settling for harmlessly mediocre.” The Guardian has called it a “bland Netflix comedy,” and The New York Times has chosen to focus on the movie’s primary take: the joys of raising a family.

Irrespective of many of its harsh appraisals, the cast’s performances have been considered comical and entertaining. Ramirez, who takes up a new and experimental role, much unlike his past pensive depictions, excels at playing a fun father. Arteta’s direction has also been praised for its creativity and bringing comic relief to every scene.

Yes Day is now available for streaming on Netflix.
