Here’s What Happens in the Young Sheldon S6 Mid-Season Finale

Episode 8 serves as the mid-season finale to Young Sheldon Season 6. In this episode, we once again dive into Sheldon’s college life, focusing on his recent idea of creating a scholarship database. We also get a fun plot point involving Connie, Mandy, and Georgie.

As usual, the episode has two major storylines. So, what exactly happens here? How does the mid-season finale end?

Sheldon is badgered by President Hagemeyer, Dr. Linkletter, and his parents over the patent of his database. Meanwhile, pastor Jeff gives Connie and Mandy a tough time by forcing them to remove all the “indecent” films from the video store.

Let’s look into these storylines in more detail!

Sheldon Just Wants to Develop His Database

In the previous episodes, Sheldon came up with the idea of creating a database that would make it easier to find academic grants. President Hagemeyer decides to capitalize on this by making him sign a contract that gives the University 90% of the earnings that this venture makes.

Dr. Linkletter also sticks his finger into the pot, claiming that he, too, should get a share of the earnings as he helped inspire the idea. On the other hand, Sheldon’s parents get involved over concerns that Sheldon is getting swindled out of his rightful earnings.

This process completely frustrates Sheldon, who simply wants to develop his database. He storms out, remarking that all the adults have taken the fun out of his idea by making it all about money.

Mary reaches out to him to apologize and tells him to take some time to really decide what he wants to do. After thinking about it for exactly two seconds, Sheldon decides to develop the database independently, without involving the university, and get funding from private investors, “who will leave him alone”. There is no problem that Sheldon can’t solve!

Connie and Mandy Try to Beat Pastor Jeff

Over on this side of the story, a church parishioner complains that the video store is immoral for renting out movies like Basic Instinct that have “sexual content” in them. Mandy points out that the content is mild, and if it goes against her principles, she should simply not rent the film.

This backfires when Pastor Jeff takes to championing the disgruntled parishioners, subtly threatening Connie that if she doesn’t take down the movie, her business might suffer.

Connie and Mandy don’t want to give in to Pastor Jeff, but surprisingly, it is Georgie who acts as the responsible one. He reminds them to stand down and not bring unwanted attention to the illegal business they are running in the back.

Connie

On this front, Connie even visits Pastor Jeff to apologize and reassures him that they’ve taken down Basic Instinct. However, he instigates the matter again by stating that there are other movies from the store that should be discarded as well.

Along with getting spurned like this, Connie, Mandy, and Georgie receive a surprise visit from a local TV station that wants to cover “the store renting indecent movies.” In the end, George gives a statement that the store does no such thing and gets rid of all the “unacceptable” movies, leaving the store quite bare.

Thankfully, Connie and Mandy do find a solution. Upon checking their customer database, they discover that the most “pious” parishioners (including Pastor Jeff’s wife) have rented these very “indecent” movies several times.

Connie uses this information to blackmail Pastor Jeff into backing down, winning the fight once and for all!
