Young Sheldon Season 5 Teaser Confirms George’s Looming Affair

Spats between George and Mary have kept Young Sheldon upbeat. But Season 4 ended with George finally walking out on their marriage.

And then, into the arms of nosy neighbor Brenda Sparks, or at least that’s what the ambiguous season finale would have us believe. Season 5’s first teaser trailer titled “George” hints that there may be some truth to this speculation.

Let’s watch:

It starts from the Season 4 finale, where Brenda suggests to George that they take off to another place after their initial drinks at the bar. It then cuts to George being in the hospital.

Mary walks in to pay him a visit — they may not have made up, but perhaps the couple has put aside their differences in light of the events. And, she brings along Brenda, who awkwardly enters to greet an equally uncomfortable George.

The teaser tries hard to validate that George cheated on Mary in the aftermath of the finale’s big argument. But it may not be as straightforward as we make it to be.

Parent The Big Bang Theory does direct some of Young Sheldon’s crucial milestones. In Big Bang, Sheldon revealed to Penny that when he was 13, he returned from camp to find his father in bed with another woman.

At this point in Young Sheldon, he is still 11 transitioning into 12. So it is possible that while George may have started an affair with Brenda, the explosive incident may occur later on in the show, in another season.

It is also entirely possible that George and Brenda may not be having an affair at all. I mean, which show doesn’t like to give us a good red herring?

Here’s what Young Sheldon’s executive producer Steve Molaro had to say about the future of the show:

Young Sheldon has always explored the characters from a different perspective than what viewers of The Big Bang Theory are used to. The fresh angle has made the show so appealing even to those who haven’t watched the predecessor.

Knowing that certain events are set in stone (like George’s affair, with someone if not Brenda), it will be interesting to see how to really happened — instead of solely from Sheldon’s perspective, who can sometimes be an unreliable narrator.

The good news is that Young Sheldon has been renewed for three more seasons right up to its seventh one.

Young Sheldon Season 5 premiers on October 7.
