Oppenheimer is Nolan’s seventh film made with IMAX cameras since he first used them in 2008’s acclaimed superhero movie The Dark Knight.

With each film, Nolan experimented with IMAX cameras, doing things like attaching a camera to a plane for his 2017 wartime film Dunkirk. Even though Nolan’s IMAX adventures resulted in broken cameras, the director continued exploring what could be done in IMAX, and Oppenheimer promises to be another breakthrough.

For Oppenheimer, Nolan took IMAX technology to the next level by filming black-and-white scenes with the camera, a first of its kind. Nolan said Oppenheimer’s black-and-white scenes are crucial, highlighting the different views on the scientist’s revolutionary and frightening work.

Moreover, Nolan will not only push the limits of IMAX cameras in his films but also help IMAX improve the camera along with fellow director Jordan Peele.

With Oppenheimer coming to select 70mm IMAX screenings (check IMAX’s website for a complete list) and IMAX, many moviegoers will be eager to hear from the director on which format is best for them.

Reece and Nolan’s video is a perfect sneak peek of what makes IMAX screenings unique as a viewing experience. With his reputation and over a decade of experience with IMAX cameras, Nolan’s opinion is respected by film fans everywhere.
