Marvel Games has a new character for gamers to live in their world of heroes. That’s right, Wolverine is currently being developed by video game producer Insomniac Games for PS5 in collaboration with Marvel and PlayStation!
Marvel Entertainment had released an announcement teaser for the video game back in the second half of 2021. The footage used in the teaser was not from gameplay, but it has led to the generation of some theories about the story and release date.
Wolverine is not Marvel’s first collaboration with Insomniac Games. They have previously worked with the game development company to produce video games like Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, with Spider-Man 2 coming out in 2023.
According to Ryan Schneider, head of franchise strategy and studio relations at Insomniac Games, the Wolverine game is in its early development stage, with many details yet to be hammered out.
Marvel fans have discovered Easter eggs in the game’s announcement teaser of Wolverine’s first appearance in the Marvel Comic in Incredible Hulk #181. This discovery has led fans to theorize about a possible Wolverine-Hulk adventure in the upcoming game.
Insomniac Games has placed some of their best workers at the helm of Marvel’s Wolverine’s development. Creative director Brian Horton and game director Cameron Christian will be coming back for this Marvel project after previously having worked on the Spider-Man: Miles Morales gameplay.
Insomniac Games has wowed fans with its earlier work related to Marvel Projects and thus has set a high bar for the standards and expectations of the game’s graphics and story.
After Logan (2017), which was the last movie featuring the much-loved superhero, Hugh Jackman has stepped off the Wolverine pedestal, and fans have been wanting to see the character back on screens. Whether via game or movie, the possibility of seeing the famous character again is far off in the future.
Since Insomniac Games has already confirmed that the game is in the earliest stages of development currently, gaming fans can expect the video game to hit shelves in 2025 or even later. No official probable release date or even a timeframe has been released by Marvel, PlayStation, or Insomniac Games as of now.
