Andor Could Return for Season 2 Sooner with a Tweak, Says Creator

Disney+ series Andor, serving as a prequel to Rogue One, will wrap up season 1 the next week, with season 2 already renewed before the show’s premiere.

Andor’s showrunner Tony Gilroy hinted at a release window for season 2 and even teased an earlier premiere dependent on one tweak.

The series features the adventures of one thief and upcoming Rebel soldier, Cassian Andor, who you may remember seeing in Rogue One. The series will span across the five years of Cassian’s life leading up to the events of the 2016 film in two seasons.

In an interview with Collider, Gilroy explained that keeping in mind past shows, Andor will follow the “same schedule,” putting its release sometime “two years later,” in 2024.

If past is the predicate, and we do the same thing we did before, it’ll be on the same schedule. It will come out two years later.

But what’s more interesting is when Gilroy explained that making the show could be sped up in the post-production process, thus speeding up the release.

[Quote] The only place you can accelerate the processes is in the post, and the only way you can accelerate in the post is with money, and money is tight. So, I don’t really know. There would have to be some severe motivation next May or June or something.

The show’s creator said that “someone would have to” put their money where their mouth is if the studio indeed wants a speedy second season.

[Quote] Someone would have to say, “Wow, we really need this, and we’re willing to pay X.” Rogue One proved if you throw money at it, you can do post really, really fast. It’s just very, very, very expensive.

Season 1 of Andor saw Cassian’s growing realization that there needs to be definitive action taken against the Empire, and people like him will have to fight back. The upcoming finale will define the moment when Cassian decides to join the rebellion, and the next season will go into the depths of his double agent work before Rogue One.

Tomorrow’s episode will mark the end of season 1, and we’ll keep you updated about the show’s future right here!
