Diego Luna’s Andor Will Go Through Major Transformations in S2

Andor star Diego Luna hints that his titular character will undergo more transformations in the upcoming Andor season 2.

Disney+’s Andor is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and focuses on the life of Cassian Andor and how he became a part of the Rebellion. Season 1 has covered one entire year of Cassian’s life, beginning with his escape from Ferrix, his time in the Narkina 5 prison, and his joining the Rebellion.

In a conversation with Collider, Diego Luna, who plays the titular hero in the series, spoke about his experience of playing Andor in season 1 and what we can expect in season 2.

Luna hinted that Andor will go through several significant transformations in the next season. He also mentioned that his character has a long way to go before eventually becoming the one whom we get to see in Rogue One.

Here’s what the actor said –

[I] think what happens also after prison and in the next episodes is that he understands really what he’s fighting against. He understands the need [for] a revolution because he understands what oppression means basically and how little freedom he has, and how unfair the world he lives in is. But there’s still so much for him to learn in terms of working as a team… The responsibility he takes on at the beginning of Rogue One is huge. Imagine what has to happen for someone to say he’s the right person to do it. Cassian Andor is going to be the person we’re going to trust with this. There’s a lot for him to discover and a big transformation to come. He’s really far from that.

When Andor was announced initially, fans were pretty skeptical about this prequel, as not many considered Cassian Andor a character worthy of getting his own spin-off series. However, season 1 proved many wrong by becoming one of the most critically acclaimed shows in the Star Wars franchise.

In Rogue One, Cassian Andor was a supporting character in a story majorly focusing on Jon Erso. Andor explains how he became the person he is in Rogue One and what he had to go through before reaching that stage.

Andor’s personal struggles are well depicted in Andor, which explains why he took the decision to raise his voice against oppression and take part in the fight against dictatorship. Diego Luna delivered an excellent performance, which further gave a boost to the series.

The second season of Andor is currently in production and is due for release in 2024. No specific date has been announced by Disney Plus yet. The cast and crew are aiming to wrap up the production by summer 2023, so they can gear up for a 2024 release.
