The main trailer for the Barbie movie is finally out! Starring Margot Robbie as Mattel’s most famous fashion doll and Ryan Gosling as her boyfriend, the popular Ken, the film is directed by Greta Gerwig, known for Little Women, Lady Bird, and others.
The second teaser trailer of the movie showed Barbie and Ken having the time of their lives in perfect BarbieLand. Besides some competition between the two Kens (the other being Simu Liu, known for his portrayal as Shang-Chi in MCU’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), everything is well and good in their world.
The trailer for the film has now given us a deeper glimpse into the heart of the much-awaited movie. Things seem to be not-so-perfect for Barbie as the order of her world seems awry. She and Ken have no choice but to go to the real world to fix things in a wild and colorful ride.
1. Everything the Official Trailer Reveals
In the main trailer of Barbie, the titular character faces an existential crisis as she grows less and less Barbie-ish. This brings her to the real world as she tries to find herself and navigate the perils and joys of a world so different from hers.
Barbie realizes that things are far from perfect for her as she has cold showers now, dreams of falling off the roof, and her feet flatten out.
This is jarring and fills everyone with anxiety and fear in a world where yesterday, today, and tomorrow are perfect. On the advice of a seemingly wise woman, she goes to the real world to reach to the bottom of these unnatural developments.
Unexpectedly, Ken joins her on the journey (bringing his roller skates too). The real world enthralls them, but she soon realizes that they are attracting way too much attention. Eventually, she is touched inappropriately by a man at the beach, and reacting instinctively, she punches him.
The next shot shows us Barbie and Ken’s tryst with the police as their mugshots are taken! As news about Barbie’s presence gets out in the real world, a black-suited man finds great distress in this information. Will Ferell portrays the toy company CEO. Claiming her appearance will lead to a catastrophe, he and his accomplices work hard to get Barbie back to where they think she belongs.
The new trailer also finally has us hearing Aqua’s classic “Barbie Girl” in its final seconds. Aqua is not included in the released list of soundtracks, and there has yet to be an official confirmation if the song will appear in the movie.
However, the trailer boasts of the movie’s music prowess by featuring songs by a wide variety of artists. Some of these are Dua Lipa’s Dance the Night, Cass Elliot’s Make Your Own Kind of Music, and Indigo Girls’ Closer to Fine (that Barbie sings in her car on the way to the Real World).
2. When did the trailer for Barbie release?
The main trailer of Barbie was released on May 23, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures. Earlier, two teasers of the movie were released, but this is the first glimpse into the movie’s plot. It gives us an insight into the peppy and colorful film inspired by the world’s most famous doll.
The movie’s teasers were released on December 16, 2022, and April 4, 2023, and offered us a hint of what Greta Gerwig has planned for the audience.

Barbie boasts a large, talented cast and crew, with Margot Robbie bringing to life the iconic Mattel doll on-screen. Ryan Gosling will star opposite her as Ken, and the movie also features several other Barbies and Kens, each played by a different actor.
