SPOILERS AHEAD! This page contains spoilers from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Episode 5 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier revealed that Bucky’s metal arm has a major weakness. Even though the piece of technology is Bucky’s key asset, it comes with its drawbacks. The arm first made its appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and has been a part of Bucky’s superhero persona ever since.

The discussion over the vibranium attachment has now been brought up in the series. The Dora Milaje revealed that the arm contains a built-in failsafe, which allows it to swiftly detach itself, much to Bucky’s surprise.

This had fans talking about whether adding a failsafe was a good idea or not. However, that wasn’t the end to revealing the arm’s defects.

In Episode 5, “Truth,” while fighting John Walker, Bucky’s arm faces a minor malfunction when he is thrown into some power cables by the former. Nonetheless, that was a brief setback, but it is later revealed that the bigger problem with the attachment is that it’s on the wrong side of his body to be fully effective.

While helping Sam with repair work, Bucky admits that he is indeed right-handed. Accordingly, as shown throughout the MCU, he is more used to exercising his right arm.

In Captain America: The First Avenger, his right hand was his trigger hand. Even with his return in The Winter Soldier, fully equipped with the metal arm, Bucky holds a rifle in his right hand.

In Civil War, he tries switching between the two, and in Infinity War, he is shown briefly holding a gun in his left but quickly shifts to his right to shoot it. He is seen to be entirely right-handed in Avengers: Endgame.

Irrespective of Bucky’s training as the Winter Soldier, using his right arm comes naturally as it is a part of who he was before being brainwashed. Furthermore, during his recovery in Wakanda, he didn’t have a left hand at all, making sense that he should fall back on the other.

This brings the question of how powerful Bucky could be if the vibranium tech was made for his right hand. But at the same time, it can be seen as a positive since it helped him become ambidextrous and use both arms in combat.

But whether the Wakandans will help him fix this or he’ll continue using the metal arm as it is, remains to be seen.
