Hocus Pocus 3 is Officially in the Works Despite Sequel’s Ending

Need a magical miracle to lift your spirits on this Moody Monday? I have just the news for you! Walt Disney Pictures President Sean Bailey reveals that a third instalment of the Hocus Pocus franchise is confirmed and currently in development. Didn’t that turn your frown upside-down?

Despite the 2022 sequel’s ending, Hocus Pocus 3 will return with a new magical adventure, though we’re not sure about the details yet. In the New York Times report, Bailey’s short statement didn’t mention any returning cast or a potential release date. However, as per usual, I have some theories.

Hocus Pocus 2 came to Disney+ in 2022, bringing back the Sanderson sisters almost three decades after their demise in the original 1993 film. The sister returned to life thanks to a Black Flame candle, but Winifred’s hunger for power soon cost her something far more precious – her sisters.

Her final spell results in Sarah and Mary fading into nothingness, and filled with regret, she asks for the help of Salem’s new witches to reunite her with her family. She gives up her powers and goes to her sisters; surely, this ending meant the end of the film series.

However, there are some threads that can be pulled to weave a story for Hocus Pocus 3. The sequel’s end introduced us to Mother Witch (Hannah Waddingham), who could be the protagonist of the upcoming film.

Another potential threequel idea lands us on the same page as the sequel’s beginning – the revival of the Sanderson sisters. In the credits scene, we see another Black Flame Candle in Salem, which was previously used to bring Winnie, Mary, and Sarah back in Hocus Pocus 2.

Both ideas seem like a splendid new path to explore and add another project under its banner. Though we have no news on who’s returning from the sequel, such updates will help formulate better theories for the third Hocus Pocus film.

We’ll keep you posted on any other news concerning the franchise’s next instalment. In the meantime, stick around on Cine Dope to read all the latest information about your favorite movies, shows, characters, and more.
