Does Fjor Become A Human In Ragnarok?

Greek mythology is no longer the trend, it seems we have moved on to Norse mythology. Atleast as a mythology junkie, I did see this coming. In the recent years, Thor and Loki has become our favourites, all thanks to the MCU.

So it’s not rocket science to expect lots of spin-offs involving Norse mythology. Rick Riordan already owned Greek mythology, it’s time to see how Thor can keep up with Zeus!

Fjor Jutul, the antagonist in Ragnarok Season 2, is definitely the new sensation as well as the latest crush for many. Like in the show, he has also won quite a few hearts with his looks. Not to forget his amazing leadership skills!

If you’ve watched the second season of Ragnarok, you will know that Fjor is not just another character but has a pivotal role in the story now that Vidar is dead and Fjor has taken over his responsibility.

But what’s interesting is whether he is actually human like he seems (special mention for Herman Tommeraas’s good looks!) or is he a giant! Not that the being a giant or a vampire or werewolf can ever stop us from admiring Fjor’s good looks, but still, let’s get to know our new crush a little better!

Fjor does not ultimately become human though he tries to blend in with humans at one point. To get closer to his love Gry, he tries to be less “giant-like” or destructive to become more human. But his father’s death compels him to reconsider his ways.

Fjor is one of the most interesting character developments in Ragnarok. I can’t wait to see what he has in store in Season 3!

1. Who Is Fjor?

Fjot Jutul (played by Herman Tommeraas) is said to be a Giant or “jotul” like the rest of his family. He is the son of Vidar and Ran Jotul. He also has a sister named Saxa.

Fjor

Fjor is said to be more than a thousand years old like the others in his family. However, the series has not come out clear about whether the Jutul family is actually blood relatives or just working and living together.

Though said to be a thousand years old, Fjor seems to a regular nineteen year old. A student in Edda High School, Fjor is a high school crush to many. The show seems to follow similar tropes as seen in fantasy drama films and literature, such as Twilight Saga, Harry Potter Series or the Teen Wolf Series where everyday characters are giants, vampires or werewolves.

What I mean is, the atmosphere is not new to regular consumers of popular media but rather old wine in a new bottle. Anyway, coming back to Fjor, several students (including Magne’s brother Laurits Seier) has a crush on him.

But our boy seems to have his eyes on just one girl: Gry. However, it seems that will have a bigger consequence than just being another love story.

2. Does He Try To Be Human?

First of all, let us understand what we mean by “becoming human.” Fjor cannot become a human from his giant self in seconds.

However, he can try to be less giant-like in the sense that he can be less destructive. It means he could start having more human qualities and feeling more like the other normal kids around him.

Fjor and Laurits

In the beginning, Fjor comes out as the stereotypical popular kid in school, full of himself. However, throughout the first season, he changes as he develops feelings for Gry. Fjor also feels the need to become a good person.

Fjor tries to help Gry’s family with money and also tells Magne the truth about his family: that the barrels from his family business Jutul Industries contained toxins and harmful chemicals.

So, Fjor does try to be less destructive and blend in with other kids around him. He tries to be a better person and more human than follow the giant-like ways of his family. However, he does not succeed.

3. Why Does He Try To Become Human?

As Fjor became closer to humans around him and specifically Gry, he started growing softer and kinder. He realized the harm his family’s business is causing to the city of Edda. He wanted to change his ways and lead a normal life like his human friends.

Basically. Fjor grew tired of living a lie. Throughout, his family pretended to be what they are not also caused enough harm to the city’s environment. Gry had a positive impact on Fjor and he wished to become a better person than what he has been used to.

However, he is unable to continue his try for a long time.

After Vidar’s death, Fjor changed his mind. In rage, he decided that he does not want to be human anymore and decides to be just like his father, Vidar. Moreover, Vidar’s funeral compels him to serve his duty towards his clan and family so he takes over the responsibility of Jutul Industries.

So as of now, Fjor is still a giant. Though for a while he tries to change and become more human, he goes back to his old ways after his father’s death.

Much worse (or better), Fjor has been established as the main antagonist and we definitely have a lot to expect from Fjor’s nasty side in the upcoming seasons!
