Who is the pilot in Jurassic World Dominion?

Jurassic World Dominion was a nostalgic roller-coaster ride. Seeing Sattler, Grant, and Ian trying to run away from a dinosaur together was a trip down memory lane for me. But there were some crucial new characters as well.

One such character was Kayla Watts, the adrenaline junkie pilot. With a devil-may-care attitude, she literally saved everyone’s ass on multiple occasions. But there’s very little revealed about her background. So, who exactly was she?

Kayla Watts is a pilot who flies cargo which is mostly dinosaurs. She has a background in the Air Force, but since that didn’t pay much, she started working in the underground dinosaur market in Italy.

Kayla’s character is introduced as a pilot onboarding a dinosaur as part of some illegal contract. This contract is for Blue’s child, Beta. She sees Maisie being taken away by a contractor and enquires about her but doesn’t get an answer.

Later, we see the character again at the underground dinosaur market in Italy, and she looks like one of the dealers. Claire tries to ask her about the whereabouts of Maisie, but she doesn’t want to get involved considering Biosyn is involved too.

However, she later helps both Claire and Owen escape from dinosaurs trained to follow the scent of the people marked with a laser. This is where we come to know that she is a great flyer and is kind of like the Han Solo of Jurassic World.

We do see a picture next to the controller, but it is for a brief moment, and we don’t exactly know who the people in it are. In the later scenes, when Owen and Kayla are practically fighting with a dinosaur, we get some idea about who she is.

She talks about how she used to be in the air force, but the job didn’t pay the bills. However, she needed to send some money home and so decided to enter the dinosaur business. She’s a pilot who delivers cargo packages that are mostly illegal dinosaurs.

Her motive behind helping Owen and Claire was that she didn’t say or do anything when she saw Maisie being taken away. This was her way of repaying them. However, she doesn’t stop there.

She’s with Owen, Claire, and the entire group till the very end. In fact, she’s the one who flies them all out of Biosyn in a helicopter.

In the movie, when Kayla, Owen, and Claire try to get into Biosyn, her plane crashes. So, in the end, she buys a new one, which marks the end of her arc.

Dominion will take place four years after the events of Fallen Kingdom and will follow the two sets of characters from Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, with their plotlines running parallel to each other until they ultimately converge.
